There were a lot of cars in the car park, most probably because the NHS blood donation station was taking place. It's always going to be a bit of an issue for residents and non residents alike.

The hotel is a bit like a grand old lady, which was very oppulent and grand but a little worn in places. Not to criticise, you understand just how I perceived it. The main body of the hotel is lovely with a grand entrance through the revolving door and a huge wooden staircase leading to the first and second floors. Checking in was smooth and welcoming. The room allocation was on the second floor in an extended wing, probably added late last century. The room was clean and functional with all I needed for my stay. The barman greeted my request for a pint with the news that they had no beer pumps in operation and only bottles. It's not a problem for me, and a suitable beverage was provided from the fridge. Later on, my return from a short evening meeting I sampled the food on offer in the bar. The fishcake was very nice, and the chunky chips had been well cooked. The buffet breakfast the next morning was simple, but good quality and fresh eggs arrived as I was dishing out my full English! All the staff I interacted with were polite and friendly, so despite what you may read in some other reviews, I personally feel that the new owners should be given every opportunity to turn the old girl around.

The entrance was amazingly Grand but when you got in the lift you felt like you took your life in your own hands. Our room was on the main busy road so it was very noisy. The rooms need to be cleaner (someone spit drink and was all over the wall) When I went down for breakfast I used coffee machine thinking it was hot water and not looking down at engraved mat that said coffee I said oops not hot water, the lady working just pointed at the coffee sign I felt it rude to point out my mistake she should have just said the one beside is hot water what if I was dyslexic or couldn’t read!? The paperwork on the hotel states you are served for breakfast but it needs to be changed to buffet style. As we didn’t have a lot of time in the morning we were hesitant at coming down for breakfast, I went to breakfast on the off chance it was going to be served quick and got town and it was buffet which we preferred maybe a change of wording and menu in book in room. Also states choice or eggs etc

The price was exceptional Breakfast was amazing lots of choice. Loved the little croissants! The fast response to my question was brilliant. Great big carpark. Reception and bar staff were lovely.

Room decor did not reflect the public spaces. However there was nothing wrong with it.

Friendly, helpful, efficient staff, comfortable bed, blackout curtains, plenty of parking, short walk to seafront, huge fluffy towels, easy to find, attractive, quiet public spaces.

Breakfast on Monday morning was chaotic. No plates, tables not cleared and relaid. Ran out of coffee and food. Long waits for more food. My husband waited at least 20 mins for more food to be replaced. Only one member of staff initially. Replaced by two others and they had to keep apologising. Food that was in the containers was cold. Ran out of staple food like beans (in the kitchen). All in all a chaotic unsatisfactory experience.

    Good location. Pleasant enough room.

Several rooms have poorly sealed windows that let in noise but I have ear defenders so not a problem. Would have appreciated some real ales on tap.

Breakfast reasonably varied and good value. Location good, car park has lots of space. Staff were all pleasant and helpful.

It’s on the edge of a roundabout near to railway station so don’t expect peace and quiet.

Good food, great staff and cheapest o/night I had on my bike tour. Quick walk into town but it is Felixstowe!

The bar run out of lager early, I appreciate it it was busy the day before, the food I had was the same as I had the last time I was there and it wasn't as good, probably a different chef.

They had run out of 3 Ales on the Sunday evening., shower could have been better., but minor quibble

Size of car park and rooms and eating areas were good. Reception and bar girl were friendly and helpful . Evening meal and breakfast was good quality and plentiful. General feeling was old fashioned and quaint, very likeable.

Too many things not available on the breakfast menu. No pastries or premium cereal, just cornflakes and rice krispies. Full English was available though.. Table was 1 central leg and so wobbly and unsafe, we thought it was going to break. Every time we cut into food it shook that much our drinks spilled. When booking, chose a double room which was more expensive than a twin room. We were given a twin room with the beds pushed together which I hate as, you can't lie un the middke together any way due to the bump from where the mattreses meet. We could have done that ourselves for the cheaoer price. Lovely bedroom and bathroom let down by a bath that looked painted, unless that's what oldervstyle baths look like but was in a mostly redecorated and more modern room so why not change the bath? No accessible plug sockets near the bed, (hidden due to 2 beds pushed together, also meaning the bed lamps switches were inaccessible although plenty plugs available by the TV. (4). .

Ample free parking on site. Great location - end of the main high street and <10 minutes walk to the seafront. Clean, comfy and spacious room. Nice olde style decor in sync with and relevant to the hotel style and build era. Mixed with appropriately modern bedroom facilities.

The sound in the lift but that’s my phobia.

The hotel is beautiful, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great, good selection. The rooms are a little dated and do need a revamp but we love thinking of the history in the hotel that you don’t see anymore. We will definitely be staying again in the next few months.
