It was fine for a night’s stay in Oxford for my purpose today

The room had a slightly fusty smell and the room was tight fitting. The wooden windows were breaking up visible when opening/closing them. There was no plug where the kettle was so I had to take it out of the tight wardrobe cupboard opening and put it all on the desk. I was also called in the afternoon during my daughters’ school sports days asking me if I would change rooms to another hotel because you had overbooked and/or had a water leak in one room which I found stressful and didn’t want to as I was travelling alone and arriving late (I even arrived later than anticipated because of delayed trains) and really didn’t want to have to go to another hotel in another taxi when I had chosen the hotel for the location close to where I was working today. I think the call about changing rooms when I couldn’t hear well during sports day got my stay off to a bad start to be honest!

The location and entrance foyer area and breakfast

While the hotel was in a lovely location with a view towards the Botanical Gardens the nearby church chimes went of all night preventing a well needed good nights sleep

Good location, clean comfortable and friendly.

The property suffers from poor maintenance and quality controls standards. For example the painted woodwork (skirtings, windowsills etc) were in dire need of renovation & repainting. The walls of our room had been repainted in attractive heritage colours. However, the quality of the painting was appalling: coloured drips & splodges all over the skirting, architraving etc & they had painted around the TV, leaving large patches revealing the previous paint colour. Someone should be checking the standards of workmanship and demanding very much better. Black mould had been left on the silicone sealant around the bath and showering and the door seal was broken allowing water to flow underneath from the shower. Other guests had left trays of glasses, dirty plates in the corridor outside their rooms when we arrived and they were still there the following morning. Breakfast was of poor quality (cheap cereals, pastries & cooked English breakfast). There were few healthy options, though there was yoghurt and 3 or 4 seeds but the fresh fruit (apples and pears) weren't anywhere near ripe.

Location was excellent, close to the centre of town. The historic building gave the atmosphere of staying in an Oxford college. The bed was very comfortable & our room & bathroom were fairly spacious and staff were delightful.

Poor access to car park Very steep steps into entrance for those with walking difficulties . No lift if room above 2 nd floor or in newer section. Room lighting - main ceiling light and bedside lights connected . So unable to rest and read in bed comfortably. All lights or no lights which is difficult if room companion wants to read or during the night if needing to switch light on. Breakfast - good selection but cooked food lukewarm . Coffee and tea has to made independently which is not expected in a four star hotel. Chipped crockery. Pillows poor quality.

We didn’t receive a warm welcome from reception and they couldn’t even find of the city. Our luggage was stored in main lounge with no security at all and no tags to identify our luggage so anyone walking into the hotel could pick it up

Rooms were well designed with excellent shower and comfortable bed

We paid more than 800 pounds for three nights, for an extremely small room. We would hit our heads to the ceiling in half of the room; No hangers whatsoever on walls or bathroom to hang anything; defect shower cable that would unstick all the time from the wall; extremely dirty windows; ripped paint from the walls; two lightbulbs were not working; no soundproof at all, you could hear everything from the corridors and other rooms. Disappointing! I understand that this is.. Oxford but charging almost a thousand pounds for three nights in such a room is unacceptable! Either improve your facilities or decrease the prices!

The location is exeptionally central and the staff was exceptionally friendly!

Some areas were in need of some maintenance/painting to refresh certain areas of the property. The breakfast was poor and although all the ingredients from the menu were self served it was generally lukewarm to cold when accessed or within no time on your plate.
