Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe booking listing and information about getting into the property stated we would contacted "24 hours before" to give instructions for entering into the facilities. We were not given that information until an hour or two before we arrived, and this was after we had tried to email/text the contact person. We were having connectivity issues because of travel, but we weren't having connectivity issues 24 hours before the stay. So trying to reach someone when we couldn't was very stressful when you are traveling, expecting you will have a room, and yet, you don't know if you will have one! It makes things seems indefinite....As we told the property manager, some things that would have made our stay better would be having explanations of things (location of WiFi password, how to make the shower work correctly, how to work the TV, where to find towels/linens/blankets for the people not staying in the bedroom). We did not let them know of the difficulty we had with the washer/drier: it is a combo. We have never seen that. We though it was neat and saved space and very eco friendly. However, the number of drying cycles needed to dry items takes away from any eco savings. Knowing how to work this correctly would have been much better. In addition, knowing how to work the lock to go into the building would have been helpful. A tenant who lives in the building just happened to walk up while we were entering, and he explained the "quirks" of the door when he saw we were having trouble.
First off, the location was AWESOME! It was so close to everything! We LOVED that the property itself was "old" in that everything was perfect! The views were wonderful! One would expect some quaintness when renting an apartment in a city with such history. All of the amenities/features were as stated. The property manager was in touch with us regarding our concerns and needs.

United KingdomThe apartment was up a lot of stairs. There was no lift. One of us, who has a dislocating hip, struggled a bit with this . Suggestions for improvement. There was only one pillow for the sofa bed. One parent forfeited their second pillow. There was some damage to a few areas we noticed on arrival. Big chunks of concrete falling out of entrance area immediately outside flat- a repair here would help with overall impression.. One of the curtain draw backs was missing in main bedroom and the small table in the living room was at a slant. A lot of the drawers were filled with broken items and old bits and bobs and old post. We would like to have had somewhere to hang clothes - there was already a lot of stuff in the wardrobe along with hoover etc .
We loved our short trip. Location was excellent and the toilet, kitchen and bathroom done out to high standards. The bed was comfortable and the location excellent. We liked the way the apartment had been refurbished from an old tenement building. It was cosy and warm and inviting for a family.

United KingdomThe bed linen was not clean, there was no spear blanket to cover the guest in the living room, there was no hand towel in the toilet/bathroom. The radiator in the bedroom was leaking (the carpet was damp).
Excellent location, very close to the main attractions - 10-15 min walking distance from the Edinburgh Castle and old street. Market, shops, train station are close by. Can easily accommodate 4 guests.

New ZealandEverything met our needs. It is fourth floor with spiral staircase so be prepared to carry suitcases up stairs. We were fine with this, but others may need to consider it.
Really good, central location. Small, compact apartment, which had all the necessary facilities/amenities, including washing machine/dryer. Clean and tidy. No hassles with communication.

MalaysiaThe shower place is a bit clogged up. You need to wait for a while before it can drain. There are several places where the lights are not functional, especially at the entrance, so it’s a bit dark. When I first arrived at the apartment, I still haven’t received the code for the lockbox outside, and it was raining heavily at the time. So make sure you have received the code before arriving there. The property is located at the fourth floor, which is only accessible by stairs.
It is located centrally in the heart of Edinburgh. Almost every major places to visit are within walking distance. Across the street, there’s a mall you can easily get to. The apartment itself is clean, and comfortable. There’s smart tv with Netflix ready to watch. There’s kitchen and kitchen utensils as well as mugs, plates for preparing meals. The microwave is also functional. You can find the apartment right next to Rettie signboard.

MalaysiaIt's located on the 4th floor, without a lift. It is not easy to bring elderly/parents to climb all the way up with the luggage. Yes it fits 4 because by converting the living room to another bedroom, another 2 persons with the sofa bed could use it but the surface is not even, it can cause back pain the other day. However u would not have an extra space for having a meal because u got to use the living room for the purpose, which is messy because it is used by another persons for sleeping. No extra chairs. Light is dim despite switching on all available lights in the room, all yellow bulbs.
Location is good Instructions given by owner is clear The owner is very responsive with the queries (by chat)

New ZealandIt was hard to make the main key to the building work, problem was solved after a phone call and a chat to another tenant. Also had to call to find bedding for the sofa bed, that too was solved quickly. However it took a bit of hunting about to find the sheets. The bottom sheets, although clean, had mould marks which was rather off putting.
Well laid out flat. Plenty of room for 3 people. Seperate toilet which is handy. Quick response from the owner/manager. Super central and good heating which was great.

United KingdomNo mention of the property being on fourth floor with no lift, this needs to be added to description. Being a person with mobility issues, this causes a problem. Stating that it sleeps 4 people but really should state 2 adults, 2 children. Only one set of keys which could cause problems if there had been for 4 adults

SingaporeThe house is right next to the street and had a lot of drunkard people shouting and laughing through the night. we kept woken up by noises. the house is on the 4th storey so it was very difficult to carry out luggages up and down.
The house was very cosy and had all the amenities we needed. it is just opposite the popular st James mall and close to waverly train station.

United StatesThe owner texted us several times asking us to fill out a form about our party and our needs. We completed it. But when we arrived it was clear it hadn't been read. (We needed extra sheets for the pull out bed, and they weren't out when we arrived. We ended up having to dig through a supply closet, under the vacuum and through all these bags, in order to find them ourselves. Only three towels were in the house even though we said we were four people. We figured it all out on our own, it wasn't a big deal. Just seemed odd). Also - the flat is on the 4th floor in a building with no elevator. Not necessarily a con, but, get ready to earn your haggis!
Location cannot be beat. You are smack between old town and new town, about a 10 minute walk from the Royal Mile and a few minutes from Waverly train station. Everything was clean and although the bathroom, toilet room and kitchen rooms are small, everything within them is pretty new and works well. Shower is great. The bedrooms are rather spacious. Wifi is strong. The washing machine has a dryer function. Complimentary tea and coffee was there for us. The pull out couch-bed is almost queen sized, and is about as firm as a futon. All in all it's a tidy, super efficient flat in a wonderful location. Four close friends can share it well, a couple even more happily.
