We loved our stay here. John and Meg are exceptional hosts and cook the best breakfasts we’ve had so far in the UK. I can’t gush enough about them really.

I was in the area as I was cycling in the Fred Whitton (starts in Grasmere only a 10–15 minute cycle away). Met John on arrival, he was super friendly and helpful, helping me sort out unloading/parking the car etc. Room was spacious, everything I wanted/needed, the breakfast omelette was super tasty. Definitely recommend.

This is my first time staying anywhere where I genuinely think if I were to come back here I would stay here again intentionally. The owners are absolutely lovely. I ended up arriving early due to train strikes and even though they were still cleaning the room they gave me the key so that I could come back and enter my room whenever I was ready, and put my bag in my room for me.The breakfast is really generous which is amazing because from what I've seen you would probably be paying at least £15 for the same thing at a cafe or bistro here and they wouldn't be nearly as generous.When leaving the owners stopped to ask what I'd done with my time and about my plans and wish me well, even though they must have still been busy handling breakfast for the other patrons.Just genuinely lovely people, and a great place to stay. Honestly right next to the bus stop coming in and out of ambleside, and you have keys to come and go whenever you want. The front door is always locked so I felt very safe here.

Bathroom was very snug and the room needs updating, however, we were informed of this beforehand as the owners are gradually modernising the rooms.

The location of Compston House is excellent, being very convenient to the village centre. Travelling on my own, I was very well looked after, which I really appreciated.

Very welcoming owners. Lovely modern room, great value for money. Bed was very comfy and couldn't hear any noise from any other rooms. Very peaceful. Breakfast is exceptional, lots of choice and great quality food. Location is great. Couldn't speak more highly of the place!

The guest house is in a great location, the hosts are amazing and the house is spotless. Our room was really nice with a very comfortable bed, kettle, coffee machine, tv and a radio alarm clock. The en-suite was lovely with ample shower gel, shampoo and towels. We have dietary requirements and the hosts could not have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was amazing with a huge choice on the menu, there is something for everyone. Mia the dog is lovely too, she is so friendly!
