We happened across The Compasses Inn as we needed somewhere to stay locally for work, but had no idea what a treat we had in store. The attention to detail of the team here is second to none and the rooms are excellent and well appointed. We had to leave before breakfast service on our first morning, and so were treated to a hamper of beautifully presented and delicious goodies left outside our room. The cooked breakfast on our second day was also superb. Make sure you book ahead for dinner, as this place is rightly enormously popular. The menu is well curated, and excellently executed. The bar/restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, and such charmingly hosts.

Water pressure was poor for showers and wash basin, other guests had the same issue. Kitchen extractor - meant opening windows at night to cool the room wasn’t possible until the kitchen had closed. Needed a fan or aircon in our room to make it comfortable in august.

The unspoilt period feel of the pub and restaurant area - contemporary rooms nicely appointed in a beautiful rural setting. Very good food and friendly, attentive staff.

What an amazing location, really tucked away! Don't think for a second that this means it's a backwater or not top notch. We stayed for one night and were the first to arrive, loads of parking, staff were so incredibly helpful, we decided to eat in the pub, and both had amazing food and a brilliant evening, as it was busy and full of atmosphere. Staff were great, so professional and completely down to earth. This is a real hidden gem. Room was lovely, can't fault The Compasses at all.

    Nothing at all.

Bedrooms decor was lovely and extras for our dog in the room, was a lovely touch! Sunday Roast was delicious and plentiful. Breakfast tasty too, and cooked sausage for our Cockapoo. What’s not to love, paying customers dogs are just as important to them as us - I love that!

The Compasses Inn is a gem that we coincidentally found after visiting Stonehenge. Off the beaten track but very worthwhile to visit and stay. The originally 14th century inn has a dark brown pub that serves locally sourced food. The rooms are pleasantly modern, fitting the ancient building and with natural materials. Absolutely nice! Staff is very friendly, breakfast tasty, according to your preference (vegetarian in our case). Considering all of this, the price was more than reasonable. Very recommendable!

Slightly off the beaten track (along some narrow roads depending on the route you take) but that wasn't really a problem at all.

Beautifully redecorated rooms - modern yet carefully thought out with respect to the age of the building. We felt very comfortable. The pub also does great food. And we appreciated how dog-friendly it was. Our dogs in turn appreciated the welcome and having nice walks on the doorstep.

Nothing! A great stay all round!

We ate breakfast and dinner at the pub and both were delicious meals and really good value. Every member of staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable, and had enough space for three adults as advertised in comfortable beds.
