could have better continental options that were inclusive of free from options/ my table was also cleaned away whilst i was still eating and had got up to refill and drink and was actually given away to another couple

When there's a wedding/function, staff can be spread too thin and this impacts the service level overall, especially in the main bar area. This time, the lady on reception was a little over assertive, bordering on rude but perhaps she was having a bad day - we all do sometimes.

We stay at this hotel at least once a year when visiting Southampton. It's in lovely grounds and although outside of Southampton, it's easy to drive or get a taxi into the city. Breakfast is always good although it can get busy if there's been a wedding. Parking is free for guests. We haven't used the pool but our daughter and son in law use it every time and say it's good. Worth noting, the pool is in a separate building.

Breakfast could have been more adventurous but that's just nit-picking; we ate a meal at the hotel and everything was great. Also there's not enough parking at the front of the hotel for the number of rooms. The overflow parking area to the right of the hotel can get a bit muddy if it's wet.

The building itself is imposing, stately and elegant, many guests could be seen outside taking pictures of the hotel soon after arrival. We had a beautiful spacious room looking out over the gardens at the rear of the hotel. Simple but very elegant and very comfortable. The grounds outside were exceptionally photogenic at the time we were there at the beginning of May. The location is within 30mins of Southampton and 30mins from the New Forest so travel to both is very easy.

Nothing really to dislike. They could arrange a designated area for car arrival/departure so that guests do not feel they have to lug their cases a considerable distance to the car park....

We liked mostly everything. Clean room, friendly staff, good food. They are successful. This breeds a problem for them - it can be difficult for them to have enough staff at all times to handle the number of guests. Queuing for breakfast made the odd one or two disgruntled.

Unfortunately our room overlooked the function room despite request to change. It was a very noisy disturbed night as there was a wedding on. Preplanning would be good to either place wedding guests in those rooms or warn other guests. Couldn’t relax or even watch tv as couldn’t hear over the music. Staff were hesitant but offered comp breakfast which was nice apology

There was a wedding celebration the night we stayed. Guests were up making a lot of noise until 2:30am. Outside our window, and downstairs in the bar. So we didn't really sleep. Wish we'd been told so we could make a decision on whether to go or not..

Could have done without some of the staff in the restaurant at dinner talking loudly with their manager about their holiday allowances, the tills and other stuff. It wasn't professional and not what you want for a quiet dinner, especially when the food was so good to be enjoyed.

Excellent food in the restaurant for dinner. Was really surprised by the quality and presentation.
