Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room was dull, it was in a basement, the tv didn’t work, wifi didn’t work and we had no signal because of where we were so we were unable to connect or use data.
I liked the location, close to the Paddington station and lovely restaurants near.

United KingdomThere were multiple leeks in corridor right outside our room door that got the carpet soaking wet. And there was another leek in bathroom that was dripping on the floor. There already was a towel on the floor in thay spot so must had been aware of it before renting it out. And the water dripping was brown....
Location was great and really suited us.

United KingdomVery close to Paddington station, 2 min walk. Made for a very convenient stop over when needing to get to Heathrow for an early morning flight. Train then take 30 mins. Also close to food places and had a nice touristy atmosphere. The hotel was welcoming and felt safe.

United KingdomThe Castleton Hotel definitely needs to work on its cleaning, especially in the bathroom and the carpets. The smoke alarm in the room I stayed in needs to be replaced. As I stayed in basement room right next to a busy street, earplugs are definitely recommend.
The Castleton Hotel is well located with friendly staff. The room was perfectly suitable for a one night stay.

SpainMattresses wee the worst thing I’ve slept in my life. Flat carpet on the floor would have been better. Also you could smell the sewage from the bathroom’s sink.
Location is awesome, price is ok. You pay only for the location, nothing more.

United KingdomMy room was opposite the elevator (401) so any noises of passersby were very loud. thankfully nobody was coming in at the wee hours, it was quite quiet. the plug in heater didn't work - and the base came away from the legs when I picked it up. thankfully the ac unit warmed the room - once id found the right mode that didn't have a shut off timer on it (with no way to change it) but it did wake me periodically in the night clicking loudly. the mattress was old and not the comfiest, and the pillows lumpy. i woke with an aching shoulder. the curtains were a lot too short for the window - I had a scarf I used to block the rest of the light. the room was a bit dusty, the carpet old and tired.
I opened my door and walked in to a tiny single bed room, with pretty much just that. From the photos of the hotel and rooms from when I booked it appeared I would get a double bed/ room. I was using it purely for sleeping so I didn't mind, just surprised to walk in and nearly walk into the wall! there was a tv, kettle and a tiny wardrobe area to hang a few things. the bathroom was one of those airplane style toilets/ wetroom - barely enough room to lift your arms in the shower. the location was good - a few streets away from Paddington, and the reason I booked it. good restaurants nearby as well as a bus stop 20 seconds up the road.

United StatesThe room was much smaller that we were expecting. The springs in the mattress were very uncomfortable. The bathroom was the size of an airplane bathroom. The shower was so small a normal sized person couldn't really fit. Parking was over $35 per night.
The location of the hotel was great. It was easy to access the London tube at Paddington Station. There were shops nearby and restaurants in easy walking distance.

This is a budget hotel in Paddington. You get what you pay for. Don’t expect luxury, but it was clean and reasonably comfortable. Location near train and tube is very good.
