Personally, the staff can be a little too "blunt", and lack the personal skills you find in other hotels - sorry guys! This is the only small complaint, the rest is absolutely outstanding!

Bed should have been larger or if possible twins as my husband has recently had a serious hip operation , I have a serious knee problem and we are both old, he is 90. There were other minor problems with the room we reported to the staff.

All food was excellent, lounges and dining areas excellent, bedroom excellent except bed much too small. Staff all welcoming and helpful

The whole atmosphere and staff are quite stiff. Probably this is an advantage for most of its customers but for us this was a buzz kill. Also, a bar could use a good barman/barmaid (I don't why but we were given very cold service). The only other pub in village has very short hours or is closed on some days. Wifi was quite slow.

We had a magnificent stay at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel. You have everything you need at the hotel. And it’s a nice getaway from the city. Close to Keswick and the beautiful hikes in the Lake District. Highly recommend!

We had to leave too soon!

We received a very warm welcome at Borrowdale Gates Hotel. The staff there were marvellous … helpful, attentive and knowledgable. A couple of suggestions that were made we would never have found on our own. We loved the comfortable bar area overlooking the fields at the back of the hotel.

Part of the issue with an older property is that sometimes the layout isn't logical. We did find it a bit of a maze using the stairs for the first time. Also on a personal note I found the public rooms too hot.

The location was beautiful, also such a good idea to put bird feeders outside the restaurant window. Kept lots of diners occupied. Breakfast was very nice , although on our last day our order was totally confused.

The breakfast and dinner aren’t great for those who had some dietary limitations such diabetes.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We went with our 2 years old boy and he also had a good time with the walks around. Hotel was clean and had everything we needed for the stay.

The breakfasts are expensive and we'd have preferred it if this had been made more clear upfront.

The location is great, I loved the room and the breakfasts (expensive but worth it). We also had a great time in the lounge and the staff was super helpful.

Beautiful hotel, and really nice large rooms, with great views likely from most rooms. Short drive to town, close to some nice hikes in the surrounding area. Restaurant in hotel is exceptional, food and service were without fault.

Wish we stayed longer!

The location and setting were perfect. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful at all times. Very near Keswick but far enough away that it was fairly quiet. Quality of the breakfast was outstanding (not greasy!) and the drinks offering for alcoholic and non-alcoholic options was fabulous

Check in times were unclear and different on booking.com to in the hotel and our welcome was “you’re late” despite on a phone call telling them we’d be arriving within half an hour and we did. Two sandwiches and a small selection of cheese cost £37 which was surprising.

Location was stunning and in an ideal place to explore different areas. Room was decorated nicely and it was comfortable.
