Care needed on the historic staircase. Disappointed that the Italian restaurant was closed for holidays.

History and location. Views of the River Wear. Friendly welcome. Local knowledge. Sunderland Old Town just a short walk away.

There's a steep staircase to bring bags up, but otherwise, it's a really great place to stay at!

The room was spacious and very well appointed for our stay The lady who runs the place is very nice and keeps good communication Very nice stay and very comfortable Nice communal balcony with views of the Sunderland area Access to Italian restaurant downstairs (tends to close early) The location is good, only a 20-25 minute drive to Gateshead and a 10 minute walk to Sunderland City Centre. TV in our room had iPlayer and Netflix

The stairs down to the outside side door but we were made a wear of this before booking.

The room was spacious and clean, well kitted out. All the staff were lovely. The owner was at the end of the phone for any questions. Very accommodating and would definitely stay again

We stayed on a very warm night. Our room overlooked the road and we had to have the window open. A family living opposite were on the balcony until 3:30 am talking and laughing, kids making noise ( yes, kids up that late ) This probably wouldn't bother most people but I sleep very lightly and have sensitive hearing. So despite all the good things I slept very badly.

This was easily a ten out of ten stay. The hotel was spotless clean and very comfortable. There was tea and coffee facilities in the room and guests are also able to use a shared kitchen area. There is an outside deck area overlooking the river that guests can also use. The towels were good proper sized towels, not always the case in some hotels.

The bathroom was a bit outdated.

We had a very pleasant stay in this characteristic hotel in the Old Sunderland area. We were travelling with three friends and had a great spacious room with three separate beds, a couch, a big television and everything we needed. There's no breakfast service in the hotel, but we could use the kitchen (that has a roof terrace with a nice panoramic view) where our frienldy host left everything for us for a continental breakfast. Absolutely a hotel to come back when we are travelling trough the north-east of England again for a football trip.

It has a very very steep staircase but this is part of the original property. The area is out of town being on the docks but it has a wonderful Italian restaurant attached to it where we enjoyed a fantastic meal and service.

This is a very quirky 300 year old dock property with so much history on the walls. We had a wonderful view of the river.

Nothing really. Wish I'd paid a bit more for room with river view and a bit bigger room.

A clean well-equipped room only 10 minutes from Sunderland station, with good bathroom. Great views across the river. Independently run Italian restaurant is part of the building and is excellent. Owner really friendly. Good, free parking.
