There was nothing not to like.

Superb food, locally sourced and freshly cooked. This applies both to the delicious breakfasts and to dinners in the pub. Friendly hosts and staff committed to giving guests the best possible experience. Comfortable room with nice touches including USB points, comprehensive selection of teas/coffee and gorgeous soft towels.

A loud guest shouting at the owner outside our room door.

To quote a famous song. Every thing was awesome. From being greeted, evening meal and breakfast. In fact breakfast was exceptional. The chef is outstanding.

Firedoor downstairs needs soft close. Quiet location makes this noise really grate... Wife wanted detachable shower head to shower without washing/wetting hair.

Staff were great. Location was so quiet (in a good way) but the pub had plenty of life. Beer was good.

Very comfortable, very clean bedroom and en-suite with good tea and coffee making facilities. Much better than average pub food. Owners always in evidence. Great place to stay for visiting the Peak District.

It was everything we needed for one night's stay. Enjoyed dinner in the pub and had a great breakfast and good coffee.

Could do with a look at the shower as it was only burning hot or freezing cold. Not too much of an issue for us though. Maybe a hose labelled as dog wash in the winter? Bed was a bit hard for me but would suit some.

Loved the location, clean and friendly. Shower pressure was good. The food in the restaurant was incredible!

Everything was great, except the bed was a bit on a small side. It was even too short for me (I am 5'5''). The village of Butterton is really beautiful and we did a great 10km walk from the Wetton Mills Tea Room to Thor's Cave and around the surrounding countryside.

The Black Lion Inn was in perfect location, great hiking opportunities. Really friendly staff and excellent food. We joined a local quiz night which was a fun way to get to know some of the locals. Very friendly people.

Delicious food; good local produce beatifully cooked, homemade cookies in the room on arrival, yum. Lovely location, it was very easy to find great walks directly from the Inn so we could have car free trips out, the OS map in the room was a bonus and Matt was very happy sharing his local knowledge of the area for our trips out and about. A great relaxing stay in a beautifully quiet area.

Bed was too small - room could of taken a Kingsize Some of the evening meal food was fairly average ( steak was a bit tough and chewy ) but the ale pie and starters were good Dining room needed a lick of paint and tables could of been cleaner Couldn't complain about too much

This wonderful inn is extremely dog friendly which made our break so easy and enjoyable. We loved the way hosts provided proper coffee, real milk, and the room had everything we needed. There was a super comfortable and clean bed and everything felt new. Great location for walks. Staff are very friendly. super stay
