The “Avon Gorge” view was really only a glimpse and nir really worth the additional money. The photo on the booking.com website was misleading. The terrace as very busy at the weekend, a small section for hotel guests only would have been nice

The staff were a bit lackadaisical… we walked in and up to the desk (of the hotel we have never been in before where there are two identical desks) and after saying we’d like to check in at the first desk in view on the right, the guy responded pointing to his right, ‘well you’ll need to see her then’, like we were supposed to know… we arrived in our room and they’d left a huge bag of rubbish from the room before, granted I told the receptionist and she was very apologetic and had it removed right away. The room itself was massively overpriced, we stayed in the Lombard suite which was just about adequately clean, but there was no nice view from the bedroom and the bathroom overlooked the pub courtyard which was a bit risqué when exiting the shower if someone was looking up at the right time, the shower room itself looks VERY different to the photos posted on here so that was underwhelming to see. The original dates we were going to book would have made it double the price, luckily our plans changed because if we’d have paid the original near £1100 for the weekend I would have demanded a refund, honestly wouldn’t be in a rush to go back, just not what I expected for such an expensive hotel.

Amazing views from the restaurant, the bath in the suite was a great touch and the bed was lovely and soft!

I received a strange email two days before my arrival inviting me to bid for an (unseen)upgrade. I deliberately chose a small room in a good quality hotel because I was seeing friends nearby. I don’t enjoy being upsold - especially when I can’t see what’s on offer

Lovely comfortable bed. Spacious room Very nice toiletries supplied.. Minutes from the Nuffield hospital where I had to go for an operation the following morning. Partner had breakfast with you which he says was excellent.

Eating area is a busy pub with large to screens next door rather than a hotel du vin style restaurant. Rooms were very warm, dark lighting with thick duvets- too much for summer

Strangely, considering the view, the room window was grubby, and also the large plate glass windows in the restaurant were ovderdue a clean. We didn't take breakfast as it looked overpriced and the signage suggested it would be overcrowded. Opted for dinner in the restaurant but considered it overpriced, and clearly the kitchen wasn't stocked for the bank holiday weekend as the sea bass and tuna had run out, leaving us disappointed and the other choices limited. NB The Ivy is a short walk away and it was superb the following night.

Superb location at the top of the Avon Gorge overlooking the bridge at the rear of the hotel. The outside terrace bar is perfect for sundown drinks watching the bridge lights come on. At the front, Clifton Village is a short stroll away and is a charming area. We very much appreciated being given a resident's permit to park for free on the street 100 meters away - though we know it was first come first served for these. Friendly and helpful staff - notably the waitress for dinner (a uni student doing drama/performance) Great, spacious walk-in shower with a waterfall head and controls that are easy to follow.

The lighting in the bathroom was really dull. The car park area is very ugly - it is the first impression of the hotel for some so surely it could be brightened up a bit. In a hotel like this you should be able to get service at the bar after hours - we could only buy a small selection of drinks, in cans from reception when we came in at midnight. Breakfast - our scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was cold Breakfast waitresses seemed grumpy and unhappy. In my opinion its overpriced for what it is.

There is a very strange setup here the hotel is situated overlooking the beautiful the Avon Gorge. It has breathtaking views from inside the restaurant and hotel bar, however all of the outdoor seating is run by apparently a completely separate business?? Meaning you can’t order food from the hotel bar or restaurant and eat it outside?? The hotel areas are mostly clean and well run, unfortunately this cannot be said for the pub. The staff were trying their best but it’s clear there is no effective management overseeing operations. Long waits a the bar to place orders. The stunning views are severely let down by a) old tatty furniture that wasn’t cleaned b) uncleared tables where people had left after having food, various detritus on the floors and chairs cigarette ends, crisp packets, used napkins etc. etc. etc.

Fantastic views, small but comfortable hotel bar area and lovely selection of breakfast offerings with really friendly staff.
