Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomSadly the beds were uncomfortable and both of us suffered with back pain.
Beautiful quiet location. Loved the fact that the area was enclosed and safe for the dogs to run around .

United KingdomLoads of knats and midgies! The location is a town on a river, so i imagine this is just a normal thing next to a water source, But the property had been clearly prepped for this with door gaurds etc.
For a young family this was a perfect base in the new forest. Very clean and tidy, well set up for kids and dogs, loads of outside space, peaceful location, lovely property. Lots of the little things had been thought about. The property rep Andy was really helpful, and flexible about the dogs, and quick to respond to communications. Gated driveway big enough for multiple cars! Games and toys for kids in the property. Tea, coffee milk and other basic essentials where waiting for us on arrival. Dog towels for muddy pups and poo bags provided. Cant wait to go back again!

United KingdomThe only issue we had was with the extremely erratic wifi, which became almost unusable.
We loved the excellent location off a quiet, secluded lane just a 10 minute walk away from all the town centre with pubs, shops and restaurants. It is a great base from which to explore the New Forest. The property was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The outdoor area would have been great to sit out in if the weather had been better and there was ample space for parking.

United KingdomMaybe a new showerhead would be welcomed, but Everything was fantastic really.
The property is through two black gates halfway up the lane on the right. It is a spacious two bedroomed bungalow with a double bed in one room and two singles in the other. The living room and kitchen are in the same space but separated by the counter. Everything you need is provided int he kitchen. The whole place was lovely and clean and gave us and our little cat plenty of room. Outside of the property, there is a lovely quiet space with a secure paddock for dogs. It was incredibly quiet and if you sit on the veranda, great for looking up at the stars. There are many, many walks that you can take straight from the house, just turn right out of the gate. The village is small but has a large co-op and Tesco express, along with a few pubs that serve good food. It is a fantastic place to take pets and kids with small touches to make life easier for dog owners. Make sure you look through the book that previous visitors have added ideas on walks and places to visit. We found some ideas using this. Overall, the location, property and facilities were excellent and we will definitely be staying there again. The bet part about this place is that if you stay there you are helping animals as it is run by a non profit, local Animal charity https://animalsvoice.org.uk/

United KingdomThere were some conflicting instructions regarding dog etiquette; there were signs up saying no dogs on furniture but the welcome folder stated dogs were allowed on the sofa as long as the blankets were used. Our dog treats the floor like lava so we let him on the sofa with blankets and hoovered the sofa before we left (I haven't heard anything to suggest this was a problem). Dogs aren't allowed in bedrooms which I would've preferred to know in advance as our dog is used to sleeping in the same room as us so we could've taken time to prepare him for this had we known. The living room furniture wasn't the most comfortable with two large adults, a tween and a large dog but we appreciated it isn't a huge space and it does have a dining table squeezed in. The Smart TV was a bit hit and miss as to whether the apps would load but we got there in the end. We couldn't find the dog poo bin so left our dog poo bags in a carrier bag next to the other bins. Extremely minor detail but it would have been nice to have some complimentary fuel for the BBQ but we appreciate this property is run by a charity and we were able to get our own from Lidl. A little bit sad that prices have gone up since our original booking but understand the need to raise money from this property (and it didn't put us off re-booking at the higher rate).
Absolutely brilliant bungalow which far exceeded expectations! Much more spacious than the photos give it credit for. Very clean and well equipped. Extremely quiet with the exception of the cows behind us (which we loved). We booked for the outdoor space for our dog and we were not disappointed! Plenty of dog equipment available for us to use. We were also allowed to host a small family gathering which we really appreciated. Great little area too; managed to do a few activities nearby which suited us. It seems like the hosts really take feedback onboard and try to improve; for example, I brought our own fan after reading reviews about it being too hot but the bungalow already had a couple of fans in different rooms when we arrived. I also couldn't find a problem with the beds which came up a couple times in the other reviews too - we all found them comfy. We felt really lucky to have found this bungalow and we already consider it "our" holiday destination which we will certainly be returning to at every opportunity! Consistently good WiFi (important to our tween). Gorgeously dark nighttime; I got to see shooting stars as it turned midnight for my birthday! Below feedback is just constructive criticism for potential areas of improvement; didn't bother us at all given the bargain price we got it for this time around.

United KingdomOnly one minor suggestion. It's a shame there was no freezer compartment in the fridge.
The site is ideally situated on the edge of the New Forest. The property has secure grounds which was ideal for our pet dog to run around.

United KingdomThe kids next door jumping on their trampoline looking into the bungalow, not the owners fault but last thing you want when chilling in the beautiful bungalow, luckily they didn't do it for long.
Amazing location, love the wildlife surrounding the bungalow. Feel very safe and secure. Best place I've stayed in the New Forest. Looking to book again.

United KingdomWould have been a great asset to have a small freezer for storing food.
Booked at the last minute, and so glad that we were able to stay here. A beautiful quiet location with every need catered for. A perfect place to have a break from the madness of life and restore the soul. It was such a pleasure to know that our dogs were safe with no escape and plenty of room to run around.Lovely views, peace and quiet, many birds of nature and fresh air!

United KingdomIt’s a shame the garden was so neglected, I imagine it would be lovely if was sorted out. There were also some dog hairs in the bed, on the sofa and on the floor ( we don’t have a dog). Other than that everything was spotlessly clean. The sofa and bed are not comfortable, but fine for a few days.
On the whole, the property was clean and had everything we needed. very spacious and very well set out.

United KingdomUnfortunately Booking.com stated the property had a dishwasher. This wasn’t listed on the property details however so wasn’t the fault of the property. It would have been useful, although not essential, to have a washing machine.
This was a beautiful detached property in a peaceful location, perfect for getting away from it all.

United KingdomThere was perhaps a bit too much cutlery and we could not find a knife sharpener to improve the cutting edges of some knives.
The self catering cooking facilities were very good with ample crockery and cutlery. The whole place and especially the bathroom was very clean and the shower excellent. The furniture was comfortable and all the other fixtures and fittings were fine. Overall we were very pleased with Swallows Retreat.
