Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United KingdomAlthough the bedding had been changed and the bathrooms were wiped down and fairly clean when we arrived, the kitchen was not clean (with spoons, fruit flies and ants in the dirty sink), and the stair carpet was filthy and had not been hoovered in some time. Everything was dusty and the furniture stained. A leg had some off the corner sofa which was being held up by a log! A toilet was missing its seat. Handles had broken off doors and were placed on the side in the kitchen. A broken glass had not been removed. Surfaces had a grubby feel. There was a musty smell throughout. The patio chairs on the balconies were dirty/ broken. Hazard tape and a torn down sign were on the staircase to the top floor (although we didn't use it anyway) There were not enough towels, those we had were tiny/ marked. Loo rolls had soaked up something brown. We bought cleaning products and toilet roll and dealt with the worst, the hosts sent cleaners on day 2 to clean and provide clean towels and toilet roll, which did improve things. There are 3 comfy seats in the main living room, plus a very uncomfortable futon type sofa bed which provides another 2 seats. It would be easy to fit in extra seating and it would have been great if we could have all sat comfortably together in the evening. Purestay need to inspect their properties regularly, as they seemed surprised by the state of things, although the property must have been deteriorating for some time. Although I must say they were pleasant on the phone, and did try to get things cleaned quickly.
Perfect location for Chester - right in the heart of everything - but also on a quiet-ish side street so feels private. Bedrooms all lovely and the beds very comfortable. It is a big house, which must have been as smart as the advertised photos when originally decorated, although now a little rough around the edges and looking a but worse for wear. With a good thorough clean, a bit of maintenance and more comfortable seating in the living room, this property would be an absolute gem.

United KingdomWas rather dusty on arrival and one of the toilet seats was off the toilet and put to one side... But not enough to outweigh the positives, would definitely stay again.
Price was good, beds very comfortable, superb location (quite a few parking options not too far), communication with hosts very efficient.
