Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United KingdomThe booking was not fulfilled!! No contact from the owner about how to gain access to the property and I was not able to access my accommodation. I was left stranded in Glasgow after a concert with nowhere to sleep. Ended up getting a hotel - the only one with a room due to the concert, at a very extortionate room rate!!
Nothing - did not get access to my accommodation so nothing to like!!

United KingdomThis property is a scam. Do not book it. We could not get any communication with the property and turned up to find it wasn't available. A tenant in the apartment building told us that the property was being illegally sub-let on Booking.com and that the Landlord was extremely concerned and the police had been involved. We were left without accommodation on a Bank Holiday Weekend and had great difficulty finding a place to stay. This property should be taken off Booking.com.

This is a Scam. The property is rented out to a tenant who’s been scamming guests for a non refundable sum of money, myself included now. DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY AND HOPEFULLY BOOKING.COM WILL TAKE HEED AND REMOVE IT.

United StatesPoor communication from owner. I never received check in instructions. Once I got in the apartment I asked for help with the TV which didn’t work and with the sink which was clogged. They said they would stop by the next day but never came. They never answered my text either. Another major shortcoming is its cleanliness. I think they need a new cleaning service because everything was a little dirty and a little sticky. It felt like college student housing in a university town, and I believe that is exactly what it is. This is not for an adult traveler who is looking for a clean, safe, comfortable place. I honestly felt like I was scammed.
It is in a nice neighborhood.

United KingdomHost was terrible The flat wasn't clean at all, the fridge was turned off and smelly, with dead bugs and dirty floors. no curtains I stayed for an hour after arrival, as I messaged the host to advise how unclean the property was but he got very angry and said he was coming over. As I am a single female, this made me feel quite uncomfortable so I left the property and found alternative accommodation. The main door of the building also was left wide open and did not feel secure at all. No offer of any sort of refund, and I left and paid for alternative accommodation. Lost 150 on this booking
The location was good The flat itself is a newly converted self-contained unit.
