Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe had to park a short distance from the cottage on the road. When we arrived, it was dark, which made the entrance to the cottage a little difficult to find. However, Helen had issued us with detailed instructions which helped enormously.
The cottage was pretty, tastefully decorated and furnished and very well equipped. As soon as we walked into the cottage, we felt that there was a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, a real home from home. Communication with the host, Helen was excellent and replies were very prompt. We had mentioned that we would be celebrating our anniversary during our stay, so we were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits! The log burner was an added bonus and very easy to use. The shower in the bathroom worked very well. The cottage was deceptively spacious as well as feeling cosy and welcoming. The cottage was located in a small village near Tirril and Eaumont Bridge, not too far from Penrith. It was an ideal location for us to travel to Penrith and also to Keswick and the surrounding area. We catered for ourselves, but there were a number of pubs in neighbouring villages that provide good value meals. Helen the owner was really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble! We would definitely stay at the cottage again!

GuernseyThe steps going up to the garden were a little bit precarious. We had 6 people staying and there were only 4 dining room chairs but it wasn't a big problem.
The location was great. The cottage was very clean and exactly as described, the kitchen was small but had everything we needed to cook. The beds were so comfortable including the sofa bed. The hosts were helpful and easy to contact. It felt like staying in someone!s home. Thanks.

United KingdomHappy with everything.
A stunning little cottage close to everything we wanted to see in the area. Gorgeous bedrooms, just the right size for myself and two teens. Large living/dining area and well-stocked kitchen. Great facilities and even a little garden to sit in. Nothing was too much trouble for Helen and Simon and we have already booked for a return visit next year. Highly recommended!

United KingdomThe garden at the back is shared with others as you pass through to access the one for the cottage. Our dogs were small and the neighbours at the end had left the gate open. Just to be aware if you’re planning on taking a small dog that it’s not fully gated off.
Great location for exploring the eastern lakes. Very clean, good facilities.

United KingdomLimited outside space at the rear which was open so dogs need to stay on lead. Intermittent poor signal on tv ( probably the bad weather )
Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Lovely and quiet. Didn’t hear any noise all weekend. Efficient central heating and cosy log burner. Plenty of hot water. The cottage was lovely and warm during despite it being a cold weekend. Comfy beds, nice medium firm mattresses. Bedding and towels were clean and fresh. Parking on the road nearby or straight across the road on the junction. Lovely helpful owners who answered a couple of queries quickly. Gorgeous powerful shower. Dog friendly ( £10 extra for cleaning ) with dog bowls and towels provided.

United KingdomThe property was lovely. The only dislikes were minor. The beds are small, so not for plus-sized families. The smaller beds have quite narrow duvets, which slide off, so you have to ensure they are tucked in securely at the wall or you're fighting the duvet all night. They only thing that wasn't perfect was the really powerful smell of kerosene. I'm not sure where it was coming from, but the upper floors smelled of it very strongly. It's noticeable on the lower floors as well, but at night it was very noticeable upstairs, so leave a window open to air the rooms out!
The cottage is in a lovely quiet location. At this time of year it was very quiet with few of the rental cottages in use. Parking was good, but I felt a little strange leaving the car parked in an intersection, so parked at the 'alternate' location which was very close. The cottage was extremely clean, and very well appointed. WiFi is a must-have since 4g was very patchy, so we appreciated that the property offered it. The kitchen is great. Everything you need, with a good sized fridge, oven and microwave. Lots of bowls! You won't run out of bowls, that's for sure :) ha ha The rooms are very small, but perfect for the 2+2 family of small kids.

United KingdomNothing not to like. Only slight disappointment was that it wasn’t cold enough to warrant lighting the log burner - can’t really blame the cottage for that though!
