Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunately it is a little humid in the rooms, being a cave like structure and probably due to the weather conditions.
The hotel is very charming and in a very good and quiet location. It is clean and has everything you need. The weather was not on our side so couldn't enjoy the outdoor spaces provided but they looked very nice.

BelgiumThe price for the room itself was a bit too high. We skipped the daily room service but would have appreciated an offer of eg fresh towels or a refill of coffee capsules/water. We found the small charge for bath towels a bit strange considering the high rate for the room. What we really missed was a shower next to the pool. The water quality of the pool was accordingly suboptimal and two of the three of us had digestive problems afterwards.
Very nice and quiet location close to the centre of Azay le Rideau. Excellent breakfast. Our room (cave suite) was very cosy (but hotter than we had expected). Fortunately there was air conditioning.

United KingdomThe bedding felt a little damp but we were in a cave after all. Pool access by steep steps will be fine for most but it’s maybe not the place for the less mobile.
Full of charm and character with lovely pool and not a long walk to restaurants. Cave bedroom suit (Grand Troglo) was great. Alain was a charming host and even brought us a cold beer on arrival after a hot day on motorcycle.

United KingdomThere was only one chair for two people. The bed sagged in the middle. The shower head was hanging without a stand to place it in, which made it awkward to handle. Breakfast was good quality but we felt it was overpriced at €14 each. We were charged €24 for our little dog without prior notice, which seemed excessive as he is short haired and very small.
Interesting to stay in a cave room as it was a new experience. The lighting was good. It was clean & quiet and warm. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our dog. The bed linen was lovely and clean. There were facilities available, for example outside seating and swimming, but the weather was too poor to use them. I think it would be a very pleasant summer venue.

United KingdomThe meet & greet wasn't very comprehensive. The list of restaurants is a good idea, but most are closed on certain week days and this would be useful.
A nice comfortable cave dwelling that made our experience interesting and enjoyable. Seating outside each room is good and the lift is essential. A very nice stay, thank you.

United StatesI didn’t like having to leave. I will be back.
I found I had a day in between Gites rentals where I needed a hotel and booked here not knowing what to expect. What I found was a magical location of this cave hotel built into the side of a mountain. Absolutely gorgeous location in the country, but a short drive to the nearest village. Everyone was very pleasant and friendly. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The soundproof shades gave me one of the best nights of rest that I had my whole trip. I didn’t get a cave room this time, but would love to return another time and try one of those.Troglododo you are wonderful!

United KingdomThis is a charming place to stay. It is run by a lovely helpful friendly family. They were really nice people. Staying in a cave was great fun. Very comfortable. The swimming pool was a delight - great temperature and good to be able to relax after a day out. It was a very relaxing place to stay. We liked sitting outside our cave having an evening drink. It was easy to walk to the Chateau. Highly recommended.
