Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing major. There was no air conditioning and no fan. Thankfully, we were not in St Malo on hot days! We opened the window, which was OK for us. The bathroom was small and had an oblong wooden bench under the sink which jutted out. So you'll have to watch your shins, knees etc whilst using the shower and sink. The two teabags and two sachets of coffee were not replaced. We ended up buying some and using those. There was also no milk provided. Reception is not manned 24 hours. Tiphanie checked us in at the time we said we would be there. We then next saw her two days later in their restaurant before our brunch when we arranged to check out. This may be a problem for some but not for us as we did not need her recommendations. As others have said here, there are some steps to climb for the rooms, but these were also not a problem for us. The advantages mentioned above way outweighed the above and is reflected in our score.
We loved the very central and atmospheric location: within the old city walls. The hotel was very near one of the entrances to the ramparts of St Malo which is a fantastic way to explore this wonderful unique city. The hotel was also near the beach. The room was spacious and flooded with light. It was a joy to see the sunshine and THAT view every time we returned to base! We reserved spaces for the brunch on Sunday. The food was plentiful and delicious. The TV had lots of English speaking channels! There was a kettle in the room for those cups of teas when needed.

United KingdomMy only gripe was the lack of headroom (Room No 3 on Floor 4) due to the roof angles. I'm about 6 ft tall and had to bend in parts of the bathroom and bedroom. As we were there for only two nights I put up with it, for a longer stay it would be annoying.
Excellent location inside the walls. Close to restaurants and the beach and shops. Everyone was friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to see us. Brilliant views from room. Easy to get to lots of other places.

United KingdomNothing. Things to think about: there's no lift, and parking in St Malo can be difficult.
The hotel is in the Intra-Muros and almost the only one right next to the beaches; rooms are compact but manageable. Breakfast is good and plentiful. Some rooms have a sea view, but those that don't have a perfectly ok view across the street.

United StatesThere was really nothing I didn't like.
The hotel is situated right next to the ramparts, and right next to an access door to the beach. Views from the rooms window overlook the ancient stone swimming pool, built into the sea, and views of the islands accessible during low tide. Wonderful place.

The hotel is in a great location, and I had a lovely view over the ramparts to the water. The service was very good- I was having trouble getting a taxi and Tiphaine was really helpful, organising it and letting me know.

LuxembourgOld hotel which needs renovations. Door for the toilet is s joke. Its next to the bed, super thin just installed and not really closing. You feel like somebody is basically using toilet right next to you, with all sounds included. This was the most terrible part. Its also loud in the morning with all cleaning streets and trash throwing

United KingdomNo secure parking for a motorbike. Was offered an expensive option, so parked next to the hotel on the pavement. Seems ok.

United KingdomComfortable room in a well located hotel intra-muros. Quiet, away from traffic. We were very grateful to be given a "room" with an extra single bedroom, and moreover a room with a view looking out to the bay. Kettle and tea making provided. Comfortable bed, stayed two nights. Friendly warm welcome. Didn't have breakfast. Great place to stay, thank you.

United KingdomIt was all good - although I wouldn't have wanted to be on the top floor as there is no lift - we had rooms on the first floor which was fine. If you want a sea view however, you'd need to be on a higher floor, so if you're OK with stairs, that's fine

NetherlandsI'm very tall and the toilet in my room was a little cramped.
Fantastic location and a nice little hotel, with comfortable rooms. I had to cancel my room because of the arson attacks on the TGV network and I wasn't going to make it to St. Malo from Amsterdam on the train. Then, by a miracle, SNCF got me a place on a TGV - it was no problem to call and "cancel my cancellation." It was also no problem that I didn't arrive until 02:30 - a key was left for me in a specific location and I got in and went to sleep. The location of the hotel, next to the city wall, is perfect.
