Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing at all!
The location, diagonally opposite the chateau, on a tree lined road in the centre of Jonzac, was absolutely perfect. We returned here 15 years after visiting with our children and friends and the exceptionally high standards, of food and service, were exactly the same!

FranceLack of breakfast options for gluten and dairy free diet. Croissants, pastries and bread are in good supply and very tasty (if you can eat gluten). Yoghurt and fruit also available if you can eat dairy. The corridor to the bedrooms could do with airing, as it was very stuffy and smelt old. Once in the bedroom all was good.
Clean, comfortable, stylish room. Quiet at night and with air con. Bathroom clean and spacious, nice powerful shower. Restaurant served good food - €34 for 3 courses. Staff were very friendly. Hotel is right in the town opposite a pretty chateau, and parking readily available on the street and in the nearby car park. Coffee at breakfast was good.

United KingdomEverything you could want from a family-run hotel in France. This is what we always hope for but rarely find! A lovely, characterful building; spacious, comfortable, well-equipped and tastefully furnished room with huge en-suite bathroom; great restaurant; charming, friendly and helpful hosts. The owner called to let me know I had left my glasses behind and very kindly sent them on. Will definitely book here again next year!

United KingdomIf you prefer a shower to a bath with hand held shower attachment check beforehand as rooms differ. Very minor point.
Very nice, traditional French Hostellerie in a quiet, pretty town. Rooms are clean and spacious. Decent Wi-Fi and air con and a very nice breakfast. Plenty of parking around. The owners are lovely and very helpful. It has a relaxed feel to it and is a great place to stop over for a few days.

United KingdomIt was a good place for an overnight stay. If there was one thing to improve, it would be an element of the breakfast. The croissants/pastries were not great, and we left them all.
Decent sized bedroom in an early 20th century character property in a great position in front of the chateau. Recently restored in the last few years to a good standard. Friendly and efficient staff. Comfortable bed and large bathroom.

Swedennothing specific. You simply had to like the whole paket. Genuinely French with a thoughtful renovation done in 2006 with respect for the original style, keeping some of the old woodwork and stairs.
An absolutely charming family run hotel, 5 rooms, a big bar with adjacent dining room. Very kind an helpful owner and his wife. Breakfast classic French.

United StatesLarge, beautiful, and well equipped room overlooking the château in the historic centre-ville. A short walk from the marché with many great restaurants nearby including the Coq d’Or. Very quiet at night. Incredibly warm and helpful proprietors who spoke English and made us feel very welcome.

FranceThe hotel staff were efficient but not very friendly. Dinner service didn't start until 8.00pm once the hotel staff had finished eating. The shower/bath definitely needs a door or curtain and a fitting for the shower hose. Jonzac itself was fairly disappointing. The chateau is undergoing very noisy renovations and like the Jardin Médiéval is only open at very limited days and times. Unfortunately, like many towns in rural France a lot of businesses have closed and the place is pretty quiet. A highlight was the medieval Rue Champagnac.
The hotel was charming and the food was excellent. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was very generous. The room was a great mix of old and new. It was big, comfortable and clean. Air-con and the provision of bottled water were appreciated.

United StatesThere was no standing shower which was difficult as a tall person. But it worked out fine and I really have no complaints. This really was a very wonderful place to stay and I will be back for sure the next time.
Beautiful building with large rooms. It's an older place but everything works great, and it has immense charm. Fantastic bed, a nice view and beautiful balcony overlooking the small park. Perfect location too.

United KingdomWe enjoyed our stay but basically, no fault of the owners, there is not much to do or see right in Jonzac. It’s a good stopover for visiting cognac estates and trying a couple of the restaurants.
Although the place was ‘closed’ due to it being a Monday (they also have a very popular restaurant operating everyday except Mondays) the owners very kindly accepted our booking and we had to call once we arrived, to be let in. The room was beautiful, spacious and the bathroom a good size too. The building is old and elegant. A substantial continental breakfast was served in the bar in the morning. We stayed in Jonzac solely because we were visiting a wonderful cognac estate 8 minutes away. We had also heard about the restaurant at Hostellerie du Coq d’Or which was sadly closed during our stay.
