Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe weather was sometimes terrible but that wasn't Sylvie's fault.
We had a wonderful time in the "garden house" in Sylvie's Paradise. Had a walk around Chinon every evening, sometimes using the "accenseur" when we were tired. The garden house is really wonderful, everything you could need was available. We were on a wine excursion buying wine for the coming year and were able to store it in Sylvie's underground cellar. The last evening after packing all the wine in the car we were able to leave the car inside the locked courtyard door. Wonderful time, surly hope to come back next year. Thanks again Sylvie.

IrelandGite la Cométe is excellently located adjacent to Chinon Fortress overlooking the old town, which can be accessed directly by lift. It is tastefully decorated and very well appointed. We spent a marvellous week here and particularly enjoyed our host's wonderful garden, which offers several seating and dining areas - all cleverly screened to provide privacy. We thank Sylvie for her warm and generous welcome and intend returning to her beautiful gite. Deirdre and Brian

Chinon is lovely to explore with wine tasting, great selection of restaurants, beautiful medieval buildings and Château. Lots to do in the area.

The location was very near the chateau and it was easy to get into the centre of town. The gite is in the owner’s garden but there is plenty of privacy.

United KingdomDidn't read the details about the fold down bed (my error) but it was comfortable. Didn't get the keybox code details but lucky that Sylvie was in. The only other comment is about the heating ( we came late September/ early October.and it was a bit chilly in the evening) . The thermostat is controlled by a code so you would need to speak to the owner in advance to change this. My advice is to visit in the summer!!
Beautiful garden and outside spaces. Easy parking outside the gate. Quirky decorating touches. Close to the Château, the excellent boulangerie and wine tasting. Handy for Chinon ( there's a lift down to the old town), Well stocked, small kitchen. Smelt lovely! Plenty to do for 3 days. We really liked it so the few comments 'didn't like' are only small things.

United StatesNo complaints.
Stepping through the gate at Gîte la comète is stepping into a beautiful, quiet paradise. The gîte is just perfect with a small kitchen, very well equipped, the bedroom/ sitting area is comfortable and spacious. Bathroom is modern and well equipped. Right outside the door is a small courtyard with chairs, tables, and just perfect for dining or just relaxing. Sylvie, the owner has decorated everywhere with personal knickknacks and plants galore. Our stay there was one of the best we’ve ever stayed!

United StatesWe cannot find anything negative to report. Although there is no on site parking, parking is convenient and safe. I am afraid my pictures do not do the gite and the town justice. Both are much lovelier than my pictures show.
We stayed at Gite la Comete at the beginning of our travels outside of Paris. At the time I wrote a positive review of this property. However, it disappeared before I could add pictures and submit. But now, I am glad it did. We are completing a 3 month trip to France from the U.S.A. We have stayed in 4 star hotels and gites of every description. We have enjoyed every place we have stayed. BUT, our hearts keep returning to Sylvie and Gite la Comete. From the moment we booked the gite, Sylvie was responsive to our messages, very helpful, warm and welcoming. When she met us at the train station, we felt that we were already friends. She did everything in her power to make sure we had a wonderful visit in Chinon. The gite is very comfortable and beautifully furnished and decorated. Although the bed is a pull out sofa, it is large and comfortable. I cannot begin to describe the lush garden setting of the gite. With two private outdoor living areas, we were surrounded by climbing roses new flowers blooming every day. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, though small. But it was all that we needed and there were excellent outdoor cooking options, as well. The location was perfect for us. The garden wall adjoins the Medieval Royal Fortress of Chinon. Nearby parking is abundant and seeing the expanse of surrounding vineyards as we entered our vehicle was soul satisfying. The gite is a short walk to the elevators that take you down to the main square of town. The town is a gem of medieval architecture, but has all the resources and conveniences one could want. It is an excellent base for exploring the Loire Valley and Sylvie is an excellent resource for discovering its secrets and surprises. Sylvie scrupulously respects your privacy, but you are cheating yourself if you limit your interactions to "Bonjour" and "Au revoir".

IrelandWe genuinely couldn't find one fault.
This was a little oasis and beautifully decorated by Sylvie, the owner. Everything you needed was supplied in the gite. The patios and garden areas are gorgeous, a perfect place to relax. It's a very short walk to the lift or steps which bring you into Chinon centre where there are plenty of restaurants/bars to chose from. Sylvie is such a warm, welcoming host and has all the area information on hand.
