Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe only stayed for one night on a trip back to England from Spain but we managed to cram in some time at the pool, a walk around the town in the evening and breakfast in the morning. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay - the staff were ace, really friendly and helpful, the room had a nice atmosphere with the dark colours and lighting and we liked the separation of the bedroom and bathroom. The pool is nicely situated and the grounds take in the river and the impressive and elegant 17th century rope factory - it was a great spot to enjoy an early evening drink. Breakfast was great - loads of choice and properly fresh little croissants. The town is beautiful for an evening wander with little bars and restaurants and so many elegant white buildings. If I returned here I'd definitely stay at the hotel again.

AustraliaWe loved the historical setting of the hotel inside the park of the magnificent Corderie Royale and the hotel itself with its tasteful decor. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the staff both in the hotel and in the restaurant were helpful and friendly.

United StatesThe lighting in the rooms was a little too bright, and unable to dim. The rooms were also too warm and we couldn’t turn off the heater. The breakfast buffet was overpriced and had too many do it yourself items, like can you just pour us coffee from a carafe instead of having us use a machine. And I wasn’t expecting to hard boil my own egg!
The location was perfect. Right by the Coterie Royals. So lovely to see the river in the morning. Great Napoleon mural in every room.

FranceThe restaurant food was bad, sorry but it was ‘grey’ and we all thought it was re-heated and just not good. We were given English menus but the translation was mad - we understood the French version! Try using the App - DeepL “Condiments with the aromas of our ribs” what???

FranceWe were particularly impressed by the ladies in reception who welcomed us and very diligently helped us to resolve a couple of issues. They were friendly, good listeners, professional and actively helped when our grand daughter lost a ring in the swimming pool. After searches involving our family and the reception team and the pool expert, the ring was found and returned to our grateful grand daughter. The reception team also took on board the disappointing meal we had in the hotel restaurant and addressed our concerns about the quality of food and the delayed service.

IrelandThe hotel Mercure in Rocheforrt is very well located, a few minutes walk from the quays and about 10 minutes walk to the main square. The swimming pool is lovely, in a quiet location on the hotel grounds. Breakfast was fine, a good selection of different types of food. The staff were very helpful, speaking fluent English when necessary. They recommended the boat trip to the Isle d'Aix, which was very enjoyable. We enjoyed our stay!

FrancePossibly the first 4 Star property we have stayed in to NOT supply a coffee maker in the room. Paper cups and instant coffee sachets didn't really match the lovely surroundings!
Beautiful location, this hotel is stunning. The décor in Reception and Bar is very tasteful and staff were very friendly and efficient. The Restaurant is ACE - delicious meal well worth a shout-out. Ten minute walk along the estuary to the pretty town of Rochefort. Loved this town! Market Thursday and Saturday; very good selection of shops and bars too. There is also a nice walk around the quai at the front of the hotel. Ideal location for a trip to the Ile d'Oléron.
