Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing! If we had to comment, the buffet breakfast probably wasn’t the best but still very nice with local produce and quite a bit of choice
We’ve stayed in a few chateaux in the Loire but Rivau was exceptional as it allows you to visit the gardens after it closes to the public and before it opens. Your stay also provides free entry to the chateau. The rooms are stunning and very comfortable.

Saudi ArabiaI wasn’t a fan of how busy the property is- when I arrived there was a garden market which made it extremely busy to visit the castle and the garden. I decided to wait until the morning to visit the garden and was so serene - until a group of school aged children were admitted. I wasn’t expecting the property to be so commercial, although I know it’s important to bring in revenue it really dampened the stay. I also felt a bit clasterphobic in the rooms not being able to open any windows, and it was quite dark.
It was a very authentic stay in a castle property. I can tell the owners put in alot of work into ensuring the property was preserved to the medeival times. The gardens are so beautiful, and a relaxing walk through the gardens while I stayed made the visit.

Very warm welcome. One-of-a-kind setting -- sleeping and being treated like chateau owners. The castle and its gardens are so inviting for a relaxing time. There is a nice gastronomic restaurant on the spot.

Gorgeous traditional looking French chateau which has been sympathetically restored with contemporary touches. The gardens were a real bonus and very interesting to look round. We loved our room which was very spacious and comfortable. Excellent meal in the restaurant with great service.

United KingdomIt would have been helpful to have been given clear directions for how to find the chateau. Our Sat Nav took us to the wrong (locked) entrances. For anyone visiting - don’t turn off until you reach the turning at traffic lights. Then you will find it easily.
The Chateau is stunning and the grounds magical. It has a real fairytale feel to it. The food was excellent in the gastronomic restaurant as well. We loved our visit and would definitely visit again.

United KingdomWe cannot fault anything. It was perfect.
The chateau is unbelievably good; it is just like a dream: a fairytale. We arrived late and were guided to the secret garden restaurant. What an astonishing location for a restaurant within the castle. The food was the best food we have enjoyed in France and all the better for the beautiful location. Service was incredible. The chateau accommodation was a delight and magical. This is top class accommodation with incredible views of the main chateau building. The breakfast was excellent. Overall, a high quality stay in a magical, fairytale chateau. The owners have clearly taken great care to make the chateau perfect. Thank you so much.

United StatesIt was a little difficult to find the entrance at first and if there was a small pool that would have been wonderful to relax after touring during the day, especially since we were experiencing a heat wave.

United KingdomJust a pity that the restaurant is closed early in the week. Chinon is a bit of a drive away for alternative restaurants
Very welcoming and helpful staff. The setting and buildings are beautiful - a privilege to stroll in the gardens with only the peacocks for company!. Breakfast is astonishingly good. Really hot weather but the AC is brilliant and quiet and the bed very comfortable. Our bike rental as arranged by the staff worked very well and the green cycle route is very close.

SpainJust be aware that the restaurant is open from Wednesday evening so as in our case we had to look for alternative solutions for Sunday to Tuesday.
The hotel forms part of the château with access to the gardens even when closed to the general public. Only seven rooms so no overcrowding and great breakfast.

CanadaI wish the restaurant was open every evening, but I also appreciate that it is important to have days off and respect that. For a suggestion, it would be nice to offer a simple picnic supper for guests on those days if they wish to keep things easy and not go to local restaurant.
Chateau du Rivau is a wonderful place to stay. The service was exceptional - the communication so responsive before we arrived, even booking us a reservation at a local restaurant (we arrived on a day the hotel’s restaurant was closed) and helping us when we arrived later than planned due to roadworks. The room was beautiful - a lovely combination of period and modern style, with a great bathroom. I highly recommend enjoying the gardens in the evening (if arriving on a day restaurant is closed, consider bringing a picnic and staying on site).

Qatar- The breakfast was overall good, but with inconsistent quality due to the varying availability of staff members.
+ Very nice ambiance in an old chateau and the rooms are well decorated, with great garden and castle view. Rooms are comfortable, with spacious, well-stocked bathroom. + Our host Thomas was super friendly, considerate, and helpful. Though the on-premise restaurant was not open during our stay, he helped us book fantastic restaurants nearby and gave tour recommendations. + Massage was good.
