Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe service at the restaurant was mostly ignoring us (didn't ask for drinks, did not take used dishes). I guess it was the lack of our French language skills... The breakfast was too expensive so we skipped it.
Really nice house and the location is close to EV6.

United KingdomI am very hot on customer care - and I am the sort of customer who goes in with a smile on my face to make it easy for staff to do well. I did feel that we were having to make the effort far more than them. We had booked dinner in the restaurant - and it FILLED with local French folks as the evening wore on. The food was good but I suppose I would call it a bit old fashioned and the portions too large - heavy cream sauce on HUGE piece of meat. The wine was a complete RIP off price which was disappointing since it was French wine in France. It wasn't a bottle, but a jug - that's fine for a house wine - but the price was not house wine price. And it was just a French house wine. The girls serving on table were civil enough for sure. But the guy we first met just seemed a bit 'off' with us all the way through - No idea why. We couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating for him - when we wanted a drink from the bar before dinner he and the staff were eating their evening meal so we said not to worry and instead went for a wander around the town - everywhere was closed! What DID bother me was that after such mediocre service from him, when I paid I was due €7 change from the €140 I paid for a twin room and dinner (not breakfast) and he just KEPT that change. That was out of order. In my opinion it is for the customer to decide whether they wish to tip or not! I didn't say anything. Next morning I asked for coffee in our travelling cups and offered nothing for them - I felt affronted about the change being kept - it was my money to decide whether to give the change or not. And it wasn't as though he had been very friendly. It wasn't cheap really in comparison to other places - the next night for instance, we stayed in a super farmstay in Northern Italy where we had a MUCH bigger room, generous supply of toiletries and super dinner with gorgeous Italian wine - €95 for everything including morning cappuccinos and LOVELY service.
Lovely old building - several hundred years old. V beautiful. All of the old part of the village is this sort of historic building - it's very picturesque.

United KingdomNo proper plug in sink, no mosquito net, which was essential. Uncomfortable beds.
The member of staff who greeted us almost treated us as an inconvenience. The food was good and the older gentleman was friendly. The air conditioner was broken and we then had to open the window but there was no mesh so we got badly bitten. The sheets were also not comfortable. The hotel/auberge looked lovely and was reasonably priced. The village was beautiful.

FranceRestaurant is ok, nothing exceptional. Carpes frites far from the best in the area. People from the hotel are not nice at all, feel like you disturb them. They are not keen to fit your requirements or questions if unexpected. Have a drink at 10pm and they put the light off on part of the restaurant room. Forget to book your breakfast the day before and they don't offer you even a coffee or a single piece of bread.
Well located, not very far from Altkirch.
