Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

United KingdomThe apartment was filthy! The bins were full of rubbish, the floor was too dirty to walk on except in shoes, there were crumbs on the table and the bathroom and kitchen both needed a deep clean.
The location is excellent and the apartment is well situated with a lovely view.

GermanyEverything was fine. As suggestions, some things could have been a little cleaner, and the table is sticky, not related to dirt but probably needs a coat of varnish. Also, it might help guests to emphasize certain check in instructions (location of entrance door, how to operate key safe) as they are trickier than expected.
Fully, fully equipped kitchen, great location also between seasons. Owner is friendly and responsive. Our rate without linens has been very low.

United KingdomThis was the worst Booking.Com experience I have had after many stays all over the world. We were staying for one night and arrived late evening to leave early the next day. We arrived to find the external key box open and with no keys inside. Infact, the door was open with keys on the table. On entering the apartment the beds were extremely messy (see photo), there were bottles and food items on the table and the bin was half full. The toilet had also not been flushed and there was a bottle on the balcony table that had been used as an ashtray. It was very obvious no cleaning had been done prior to our arrival. We cleaned the table and tried to clean the toilet (no cleaning materials were available) and assessed the beds. We had brought bed linen as detailed on the website, but the beds were still horrible and the duvets (as shown in the photo) were dirty and stained. There was no way we wanted to sleep on the beds or use the duvets. Luckily we had sleeping bags and mats and so used those (2 of us on the sofa bed and one on the floor). It was horrible and if we had had any alternative we would have left at this point. We used a few plates and bowls for breakfast but there was no towel to dry them. We couldn't find any information about the bins and there were no bin bags available so this was left as we found it. We left early in the morning. We thought that was the end of the stay but unfortunately not. Later that evening we received an email from the owner saying new residents had arrived and complained about the state of the apartment. I'm not surprised they complained, but apparently this was our fault and the owner had complained to Booking.com. In fact, we had left the apartment better than we found it (this wasn't hard) and were very offended by the accusation. We should have read previous reviews better as this is clearly a trend about it being unclean and dirty.
The property has good parking and is only a short walk away from the nearest ski lift.
