“I love its authenticity everything inside is original and felt like living in the 1700s. The house keeper was very kind and provided a good service. The breakfast room / table was huge and felt magical every morning. Also it had its own pigeonaire go check it out.”
“A beautiful 16th century castle blissfully stuck in time. It turns out the chateau was previously owned by Gabrielle Pauline Bouthillier de Chavigny, known as countess d'Adhémar, who was dame du palais (lady-in-waiting) to Queen Marie Antoinette in 1770–1789. She chose to retire to this country estate after the start of the French Revolution in 1789. She sold it to the de Pommereau family in 1809, who still own it to this day.
We were the only guests staying for the night and were able to roam the grounds and explore the shabby, yet so quaintly, decorated rooms. It may need a little TLC, but we absolutely loved it, even after waking up in the middle of the night with a chilling child portrait staring down at us, terrifying tools in the bathroom and what can only be described as a child's wedding dress displayed (or floating if you ask Jo) in the hall way... an experience to say the least!”
