Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe Bath was to high, made it difficult to step in and out after every bath. I would have preferred a walk in shower instead. The restaurant staff on duty during the afternoon tea and dinner were not friendly. Every request or question raised to them was met with a straight face. I felt i was bothering them. Unlike the staff on duty during breakfast who were very friendly and helpful. I also did not understand the preauthorization payment, i paid in full upon departure and i had to chase several times to have my money refunded.
Location was great, with the tram stop just outside the hotel. Breakfast was lovely, though we would have loved some toast. The hotel building was amazing. Worth visit especially due to its rich history

CroatiaMaybe it should be a better mattress on additional (child bed), also room could have slippers for guests.
We like that the room is very clean and tidy, also it is very spacious. Breakfast and dinner are exceptional. Good position close to the tram stop, but the city center is not far away even on foot.

LithuaniaI stayed on the first floor and it was hot days in Helsinki, however in the room was quite chilly. When asked about the possibility to turn on the conditioner or heater, unfortunately was told that its impossible. Drinks at the hotel are sold till 1:30am and thats ok, but would be practical to have this information somewhere written.
Absolutely amazing hotel. Everything was just perfect. I didn't expect such an amazing experience. From reception, to the kitchen - all the workers were extremely kind and helpful. I adored the breakfast and dinner, wide range of fruits, drinks, and various food. The style in the hotel is great.

GermanyAfter staying at various hotels in Helsinki over the years, this now was our second stay at Hotel Katanajokka. We like the hotel for its location in a quiet neighbourhood. Yet, it is only a short walk from there to the bustling centre of Helsinki. Rooms are comfortable, breakfast superb - and there is public parking right on the property, not a given in Helsinki. We didn't miss a thing.

United KingdomThis former prison has been very nicely renovated. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern and quiet. There is a decent breakfast buffet which should cater for most people. Dinner is included in the price and is simple home-cooked type food. It's about a 15 minute walk to the ferry to Suonmenlinna and a few more minutes to the cathedral and retail area.

CanadaTwo things did detract a little. The first was being asked to pay an extra 10 Euros to check in early (we arrived an hour before regular book in time) most hotels allow this an no charge if the room is ready. The second was being asked if we were okay with them not cleaning our room every day? We have come across this before but usually with an offer to give a credit for those days you chose not to have the room cleaned. That was not the case here, and as we were paying a fairly hefty rate we requested that our room be done each day. This was done and they even offered us a takeaway breakfast the day of our departure as we were leaving so early.
Loved the concept of it right from the beginning, it is a very interesting place, being a converted prison as it is. Our room was obviously originally two small cells, the central hallways with the metal stairs and railings were exactly what you would see in a movie (although they were now carpeted). It was a great experience indeed and the staff were excellent. We also used the hotel sauna, we pre-booked it and had it to ourselves for an hour. Well worth it.

BelgiumI don't mind the room not being cleaned during my stay, but for a 6-night-stay I will need more than one roll of toilet paper - it's a bit of a hazard that I had to come and ask for this. I suffered from the intense air conditioning and didn't find a way to stop it from noisily blowing into my face - this is probably just a problem for me as a difficult sleeper. Finally some more explicit communication would have been nice: please have a leaflet in the room stating when breakfast etc. is served; I now had to go make a picture in the reception area. I still don't know by when checkout was due, since I couldn't find any information on this.
Really good food (I especially liked the dinner; though some more variation in the breakfast would have been nice), excellent location for me and very efficient and friendly staff.

The location is fantastic right outside number 4 tram stop straight into the city and a 2 min walk to the Vikingline ferry terminal to Tallinn. Cleanliness was great, breakfast and evening meal filling and tasty with free Fika (coffee and cake) 3-5 everyday. Very good value considering the meals are included in the price which would be expensive eating out in Helsinki. Kept prison features great go see the old cells and very quirky. Staff friendly.

United KingdomThe included evening meal was a bit hit and miss: the soup and salad were always good (but the soup ran out quite early one night) and the "main" part of the meal was sometimes a bit disappointing. Hard to complain though as the room rate was so reasonable. Best to consider it a bonus rather than an inclusion and be prepared to pop to the nearby supermarket (5 mins)to top yourself up if needed. Not a complaint, just an observation: rooms are not serviced during the stay (except I think on request). Once we realised this we found it quite relaxing (as not on tenterhooks that someone might be knocking on door whilst snoozing)
Excellent hotel with garden (unusual in Helsinki) and parking available (c£20 per day). We liked it so much we stayed twice in the same trip. It's worth paying the small supplement to have a superior room which means that you are guaranteed a window you can look out of. The position of the hotel is great: on a little island out of the way but only 10mins walk from the main street (or catch the no 4 tram which runs every 10 minutes from outside the front gate). Breakfast was excellent and the included Fika (afternoon coffee/tea and cake) a lovely way to end a days sightseeing.
