Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe manner in which you communicate with (or the hotel proprietors communicate with you) is remote to say the least! I pre-registered online and using an online translator found that I would receive a key code to enter the building as there is no on-site reception. By the time I arrived at the hotel this code had not been received and the door remained firmly closed. Another intending guest had the same problem and telephoned for advice. At the (last) moment I did receive a code (possibly, in fairness, because formal booking-in did not start until 16.00 and I arrived just ahead of that time). Punching in the key code did not open the door; fortunately someone staying there arrived and said you have to enter the code and then 'E' (not apparent). Once inside I was reminded of my interpretation of The Eagles and 'Hotel California'! There was an eeriness as no staff were on site and I made my way to my room. The same 'experienced' guest pointed out that you enter the same code followed, this time, by pressing the 'tick' sign. At last I could relax and enter my room! This was a positive. It was carefully designed to make the most of a relatively small space but it was light and clean. No air conditioning in my room but there was a large fan. With no staff I wondered about fire evacuation but there was an escape plan pinned to the bedroom door. I do have qualms about there being no staff about most of the time; what happens in the case of an accident where the guest is alone and without access to a mobile phone to call for help? I spent a restful night and next morning there was one young woman on site who dealt with breakfast which I would describe as acceptable but not value for money (I paid €18 but although this was about the same price as the hotel I stayed at the previous night, there was a vast difference in choice). The hotel is certainly something different from the norm and I hope it is successful.
I could write so much about this hotel experience that it's difficult to know where to start! The renovation of the building is exceptional and the care and consideration given to internal restoration has to be seen to be believed. It is, quite simply beautiful. I travelled to the city by train and the walking distance is a comfortable ten minutes or so providing you know where you are heading to.

CanadaNo AC. Unfortunately, the day we stayed was very hot even until midnight. Fan they provided us was not enough to cool down the room. Window did not had any window screen but we had no choice and had to keep it open. Also, there is no reception.
Location was very good. Close to the central train station. Shower pressure was good. Very friendly staff if you can find them. Andreas found us wandering around near building cause we didn’t received pin code yet and he helped us get in to the building and called hotel for us to let us store luggage before check in time. He was super friendly, kind and willing to help us.

GermanyCheck in process was not a intuitive as it could be. It was quite noisy, you could hear everything on the next room and doors banging and steps from the corridors and stairs, so it wasn't very relaxing. Despite specifically booking one large double bed, got two singles instead. No toiletries in the bathroom, except hand soap, and timed tap felt cheap.
Great location, clean little room, staff very friendly and helpful when contacted on the phone. Coffee and tea making facilities were a nice touch.

United StatesWe had a large number of pigeons outside of our room. This is because our room was right next to part of a building that was falling apart. There was bird poop everywhere, so it really ruined the view out of our window. We couldn't open our windows because of the pigeons.
The location was great.

United StatesI didn't like not having any front desk. I did find help in the restaurant/bar downstairs, but the communication texts, emails were in German and I had to ask for help in reading them.
The room was bare bones. Two twin beds and a small desk with a coffee machine on it. They did have an elevator. The guy at the bar/restaurant downstairs was helpful. I got an email telling me my door code. The message was in German. I only speak/read English, so I didn't know what the message said. I had to ask the man in the restaurant to help me. So, now he knows my door code. It was a good location. We walked from the train station and could walk to the main square which was within a couple of blocks .

AustraliaThere was not a kettle or cups in the room and the hand soap ran out on the 1st day - we let them know, but wasn't filled up. Seemed to be on rations for toilet paper and soap! No air con, but they did provide a fan which was a godsend ! Some reception staff not helpful and most of the time were not at the desk - we had to look for them to check in and then check out. But, all quite minor things ...
The location was good, close to train station (about a 7 min walk) and a 5 min walk to the main shopping area. There were 2 waters in the room every day.
