Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaThe room was overfilled with large furniture and although the breakfast was nice, the breakfast room is just dark.
It was lovely from the historical point of view and the staff are very welcoming!

New ZealandThe old building has rambling passages, with stairs up and down. Low beams everywhere. I did not fully understand at the time of booking, but the double bed was on an upper platform, with no space on either side, and access to the foot of the bed only, by a ladder.
Efficient reception and excellent bike storage. Old building, in parts dating back 800 years. Its Hansa facade survived WW2 bombing. It wss a privilege to stay in such a building. The good breakfast was served at our table. Eggs cooked to order, guaranteed freshness.

AustraliaWifi was very weak in our room. Water could have been hotter.
Convenient location close to the centre, but only 3 tram stops from the Hauptbahnhoff. The hotel has a lovely warm feel to it about it, and quirky, inventive design to fit modern bathroom/shower facilities into its historic rooms, though my wife’s view (different) was that it was a bit cluttered. Our room was comfortable, quiet, very clean, with everything we needed. Breakfast in the club-like downstairs area was individually served and generous, with a variety of foods, and eggs cooked to taste. Staff were friendly and helpful. A unique experience and privilege.

United KingdomIn the evening we wanted to borrow a spoon from the bar, but we couldn't find anything available downstairs. It would be nice to have some spare cuttlery in the room and a kettle with a choice of tea or coffee for those who do not drink alcohol.
All the staff we have met were polite and friendly. Our room was spacious, had a comfortable bed, and a modern bathroom with a generously sized bathtub and a shower. We enjoyed all the quirks of the building which is over 600 years old! A tasty breakfast served in a bar downstairs, which looks like an old pub, was a fab beginning of a the day.

FranceYou cannot check in after 7pm which is mentioned on the booking confirmation so be careful with that. Problem is that there’s nobody there after 7pm. I arrived late after 8pm and until I managed to reach someone I thought I had nowhere to sleep because the pin on the online check in form didnt work. Anyway, I got in eventually and for the first night of my 3 days stay I believe I was alone in the whole building. Super unnerving. The room was also quite cold even if the heating was on but being a historical building the insulation is not as good, I guess. I didnt like the shower in the room, it’s something I generally hate on hotel rooms. I prefer privacy when it comes to bathrooms. The toilet thankfully was separate but without heating so cold. All in all, I would super recommend this hotel for warm season.
The building is historical with typical Hanseatic architecture. The old furniture is elegant and the mini bar in the room is good with a nice selection of wines and snacks. The breakfast is amazing with cold cuts, cheeses, veggies, fruits, freshly made eggs and coffee. Property is nicely located close to train station (3 stops by tram) and old town.

GermanyAs we don't speak German, we used google translate to ask the woman at the desk if she would help us call and make a dinner reservation. She refused. No explanation, just no. Luckily we got in without a reservation, but thought it odd that a hotel attendant would refuse to help make a dinner reservation at a local restaurant.
Huge room/suite with quirky decor. Excellent bathroom including a bidet! Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Initial check in was pleasant and helpful. Hotel definitely has character and personality. Glad we chose this place over the chain across town.

DenmarkOld people should be aware that there is no elevator and the stairs might be considered steep. The shower is a clear-glass walled construction standing beside the bed. Nothing bad about that but good to know.
Lovely room with character. The room was cool even though it was hot outside. The hotel is old fashioned in a very charming way. Location in Rostock is great, just outside the busy centre.
