Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

United KingdomThe kitchen facility is a bit odd. Very small compared to the size of the hostel and you can't enter it freely, you have to go back and forth to get a key from reception in the opposite building. Barely any crockery/dishes available either.
Very welcoming and helpful staff. Especially Ameen from reception who's been so friendly and sweet the whole time I was there. He always wears a smile and is always keen to help.

Czech RepublicPrice is the cheapest in Munich (from €12/n) so you can imagine what type of people you sometimes share room with. I would appreciate curtains on the beds, you have to improvise.
Staff is perfect and helpful, place is cleaned regulary and lobby is huge. I have visited many hostels but AO is my #1!

United StatesWe traveled with our family, which allowed us to bring (no joke) 26 pieces of luggage. The lift was broken for more than half of the time and we ended up bringing almost all of the luggage up five levels by hand. That was a nusciance and troublesome on the bookends of our stay.
When you stay somewhere, you should not notice the room because it should be clean, orderly and functional. A&O did great in this respect. The staff was truley exceptional though and were increibly hostpitable and helpful. We felt very taken care of by the staff. Especially the food service staff who met our dietary needs with consistent exceptional service and accomidation.

GermanyThe breakfast space is in another building and there are no elevators. We had to use stairs with luggages so it was inconvenient. Also, there weren’t anything warm in the breakfast (e.g. scrambled eggs or sausages). You will not leave hungry but for the price I think there should be more than 3 types of ham and 4 types of cereal. Also the location is a bit far from the central area and from the nearest subway. It’s not hostel’s fault obviously, just the guests should consider 10-15 min walking to tram and s bahn.
Fast check in system was good, but it didn’t give us the room keys so we had to end up at the reception anyway. Room was clean and comfortable.

Italywe are very disappointed in the service room, because first they don’t know the door before entering but they just come in without knowing or even verify if the person is there or not, or if is changing his/ her self. They also don’t clean as well, they do what they can do and they always run instead of taking their time and clean all the places that must need to be cleaned.

It worked for us in a family room, even when facing the railroad the windows did a good job isolating the noise. Since it was winter we didn't need to open them. Good price for Munich, close to a S bah station. The kitchenette is not accessible
