The garden is amazing with all the wildlife - sloths, iguana, frogs, agoutis, birds. Pool is great for a dip. Green house is comfortable and well equipped. Location is great - beach just opposite where we had fun in the waves and a short easy ride to town. Marise always available to answer questions and Pierre to show where the sloths are hiding!

The AC in the room was installed in a way that it was only covering part of the room, freezing one person in a single bed so that others could have comfort. There were some plumbing issues in our toilet after power cut.

It was a room in the main building. The room was quite big and had a small kitchen with some utensils, a fridge, basic coffee maker, kettle and toaster. There was a sitting area in the front. The pool was very nice. Garden beautiful and well taken care of with two sloths, many iguanas and birds, frogs, crabs. The owners were nice and friendly, they showed us were to look for the animals. Pierre was especially passionate about animal life and told us some interesting stories. We got some recommendations of places to eat and visit. There was a black beach just in front of the property.

The location is great. A nice 15 minute stroll into town. It’s right on the beach and next to a lovely bar and restaurant. The staff are very helpful. The pool is super and the grounds are lovely. The rooms are good although upstairs with air conditioning and a bit more space is worth the extra cost, Marise is extremely helpful.

The property seemed to be in its own little nature park. We saw so many animals on site. We also felt very safe and comfortable. The owners were very helpful. The beach was across a small street

Lots of animales in the garden, perfect location opposite the beach, walking distance (15 min.) to Cahuita Ntl. Park entrance and town center, super helpful and relaxed Marise and Pierre...perfect time and place in Cahuita. Thanks Marise and Pierre for sharing this wonderful spot.

Loved it all!

Our room and bathroom were very comfortable and spacious. The grounds were amazing! A huge variety of wildlife in the garden- agoutis, sloths, little green frogs, lizards and iguanas in the trees! It was heaven to get back from a day out and jump in the pool. Also, I could take my morning coffee over the road to enjoy on the beach.

Lack of AC

Walking through the gate literally into a tropical paradise and being welcomed by Marise was a marvelous experience. The wildlife on the property was fascinating. Rinsing our snorkeling gear off by the pool and partaking of the pool was relaxing.

May be it’s not super close to the national park. But for me it was not an issue at all.

That’s an amazing place! If I need to choose where to stay in Cahuita once again I would definitely choose Playa Negra Guesthouse.

Nothing to dislike!

Beautiful house in thoughtfully planted gardens, in order to encourage wildlife (of which there was plenty!). Our room had its own private outside seating area, and space to hang wet swimsuits. Inside, a fridge/sink/coffee and tea making facilities and cutlery/crockery. There was a BBQ and honesty bar by the pool. Marise was very welcoming, showing us around the garden and pointing out the sloth, iguanas, the spots to look out for frogs, and how to recognise a toucan call. Pierre is very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and has a great zoom lens to point out anything he spots. The beach is just across the road, my daughter loved jumping/ducking the waves. It's a 15-20 min walk to the centre of Cahuita, and the National Park entrance. There's a big supermarket, a couple of smaller ones, and plenty of places to eat. We went next door to Brigitte's for delicious pancakes in a lovely shaded setting (red and green frogs enjoyed the setting too!) A wonderful start to our Costa Rica holiday, we adapted to 'tico time' well here!

I can't recommend this guesthouse enough. The owners are lovely and did everything to make sure you have the best stay. I saw more animals in the beautiful gardens than in the National parks. If you are lucky enough to find a reservation, don't hesitate, just book.

The owner was just amazing. We arrived on Christmas Eve and were worried no one would be around. The lady could not help us enough. She helped us with taxis and made us feel very welcome (inc a tour of the grounds to spot Sloths and iguanas).

We liked everything.

It is a super beautiful property located at a top spot. Owner Pierre gave us a great little tour, showing us sloths, leguanas, spicy coloured frogs etc in the beautiful, big garden.

Mosquitoes got into the room at night through gaps in doors and the room was very hot.

The place is full of animals. In their garden you can see sloths, parrots, toucans, frogs, iguanas,even kinkajou. Pierre, the host was so nice and teached us how to find animals

Lovely location, beautiful gardens, lots of animals to be seen and the owners were really helpful. Lots to do nearby, including hiking through the National Park, relaxing by the pool, swimming in the see, eating local food and a fabulous night of music and dancing at the nearby reggae bar.
