NetherlandsThe prices are quite high in comparison to the basic rooms. The portions of the food are very small. Also you have to make a menu choice the day before but it would be more customer friendly if you can just order when you are having breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Caño Negro is remote and the road is not too great but the lodge is a quiet place surrounded by beautiful nature. The place is very nice and spacious. The room is a bit outdated but looks clean. Some of the staff is not very experienced in how to put the customer on #1 but they are really friendly.

CanadaRoom needs a small fridge and a ceiling fan. The AC is adequate, but the fan would make the air circulate and the fridge allow to have drinks in the room without having to ask for ice all the time.
Quiet, room besides forest, lot's of birds, monkeys, deers. Lovely trails. A very short walk, the Rio Frio is bustling with birds, caymans and other animals.

United StatesWater pressure was pretty bad and some people in our group had to shower with cold/tepid water. Beds were not very comfortable and the thin blankets were not warm enough once we had the a/c going. Had to remember to always keep the door closed otherwise mosquitoes and (many) centipedes would get in. Door locks should be upgraded or repaired. It took multiple tries just to lock our rooms. I think the memorable thing about this lodge is how bad the inbound roads are. After 45 minutes of bumpy, dirt road full of potholes, we just wanted to get to the main road and crack our backs. Costa Rica tourism should really invest in the infrastructure around this region because this lodge has so much potential to be more popular.
The lodge itself is great - friendly, accommodating and hospitable staff. There is a heated pool on the property as well. Restaurant has selective but delicious options for food. Our large group had breakfast and dinner on both days. Breakfast is ala carte and it helps to place the order in advance. Service was very personable. The servers learned the names of the guests and brought food accordingly. It was a unique experience to have breakfast so close to beautiful birds, just hanging out near the restaurant, having their own breakfast! We even saw a sloth relaxing on a nearby tree. You feel like you're really in middle of nature.

United StatesBeautiful property. Rooms nice and comfortable. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. Enjoyed the swimming pool and the bird feeder that encouraged many birds to stop by, giving us a close look. The monkey families in the trees were fun to watch.

United KingdomNo wifi apart from the main building; given that the whole point of coming to this area is for a tour on the river, it should be more seamless to book a trip - we got one in the end, though they threatened that we would have to pay ‘extra’. We didn’t, in the end, pay extra, but the whole process seemed harder than it should have been.
Very nice swimming pool, just what’s needed to cool off from the heat.

The setting of the lodge was just beautiful so many wonderful birds, trees and flowers. Joseph at the Lodge was a perfect host, very knowledgeable about the surroundings and wildlife. Fabulous guy who looked after us for two days. The pool area with the swim up bar was superb. Both afternoons we had the company of a family of monkeys passing through 🐒🐵 was unreal, just perfect.

United KingdomIt is a very remote location near the Nicaraguan border so facilities should be judged in that light. It is run by a charming and hard-working family and staff. They work hard on preserving the ecology and attracting birds and monkeys and producing artisanal chocolate and planting cocoa trees and guests are invited to plant a tree for these purposes. They produce excellent guides for bird and animal watching on the Rio Frio. An excellent stay
