Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyVery pretty big house with a great kitchen and pretty garden around with fresh fruit. The rooms are nice and clean, though there are a lot of ants and other insects due to the forest around. The host ist very nice and always available for any issues. Only slightly negative thing is the location, as it is quite far from the small city. It’s 30 min by foot down to the beach/Montezuma or a 6000 colones taxi ride up/down. The host does however offer to drive you up/down one time a day. Overall we had a lovely time!

United StatesWhere to start... This might have been my best allround experience through Booking. And I travelled a lot. The place, it's surroundings, the energy, the host, the services and facilities, everything was 10 out of 10. You can pick fruits from the beautiful garden to make your own smoothie in the morning. There's an abundance of birds, animals and butterflies. You can hear the monkeys howling in the trees in the morning. I would wake up in the early morning to watch the sunrise while drinking my coffee and watching the ocean. If you want to immerse yourself in nature and have a peaceful stay this is your place. Every room has their own fridge in the kitchen and every morning your host will make sure there's enough products in there to have a lovely nutritious breakfast. It also has very well equipped kitchen with all utensils you need in case you want to cook at home. Ype goes above and beyond to ensure you have to most perfect stay. Property is a little bit far from the downtown and since I was solo traveling without a vehicle I was worried this might would be a problem. But in hindsight, I didn't want it any other way. You feel remote (in the best way possible) while still being close to the crowds in town. I either walked and enjoyed the surroundings (I would recommend to walk to town at least once and make a stop at the Beer Brewery <3) or Ype would drop me off/pick me up with his AT4. I wished I could have stayed longer. My 2 days felt like a month. If you want to fully recharge and enjoy Costa Rica in it's purest form, this is you place to go. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ype. Keep it going, Pura Vida!

Everything, it’s tranquil and away from noise downtown, beautiful gardens, kitchen very well equipped, it’s a 3 walk from downtown which for us was great and our host picked us up every evening. Host was superb and at one with nature, very informative and helpful. Animals and birds were abundant. We loved it there, l have been to many places in 50 years of travel and at this moment I cannot think of a better place to spend time at, will definitely return.

GermanyThere was a high humidity in the sleeping and bathroom. Unfortunately, in the bathroom there were no mosquito nets. Therefore, ventilating without getting insects in the bathroom, was not possible.
Our host was really great - very helpful, communicative and a lot of good and honest advices on making tours and where to go e.g. surfing. The host speaks German, Dutch, Spanish and English well (maybe further languages), this made the conversation easy with all the guests. We felt welcome and had an awesome quiet time in Jodokus Inn and nice activities in Montezuma (the waves for surfing are nice at playa grande, better go for a bioluminescence kayak tour in Paquera) :) The sleeping room is equipped with a good mosquito net at the windows, a powerful fan and the bed was comfortable. There is a lot of really nice wood furnitures and floors and a nice view on the ocean in distance, which creates a special and relaxing atmosphere with the amazing garden and animals. We enjoyed the tasty breakfast with fresh pineapple or mango, cheese, eggs, yogurt, cornflakes, toast, coffee etc and the well equipped kitchen very much (all the ingredients are provided in your own big fridge and you can prepare your breakfast whenever you want). The garden of our host is amazing. We saw howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys eating bananas, an agouti, a coati eating ants and the rest of a pineapple, rare doves and different fruits like starfruit, oranges and grapefruits (we were allowed to pick and eat them). We’d like to prolong our stay at Jodokus Inn!

United KingdomAn absolutely stunning house with gorgeous extensive grounds. You won’t find peace and quiet like this elsewhere in Montezuma, and we loved every second we spent here! We saw so much wildlife on the property and the owner, Ype, often pointed out birds and animals in the garden. It’s a couple of miles out of town, and not really walkable, but this is what makes it such a secluded spot - and Ype offers a lift on his quad bike every day, which is great fun in itself! There is also a great kitchen so you can enjoy cooking meals and eating them with a stunning view. Ype could not have made us feel more welcome and was always on hand if we needed him. Staying here is a real experience, and we would love to come again! His website has some great pictures of the location, too.

SwedenThis place really is a little gem in Montezuma! I was taken care of so well and it really feels like a home where you get your own fridge and can roam the grounds freely. You’re super close to nature and will be able to see all sorts of animals! It’s a little bit away from “down town” Montezuma which I personally appreciated.
