This place is a gem. At first glance it's a little red shed, but once you enter the landscape unfolds. Lurking on the hillside, the back of the lodge is a glass wall that allows you to overview the jungle and river from out of the bed. We loved how the owner reforested this former pasture into a little garden of eden. You can take a bath in the river and have breakfast on the balcony with birds all around. It's on walking distance from the Hummimgbird garden, Cloud Bridge reserve and other places.

Had three nights in a 4-bed dormitory (2 of them alone). Selina is generally quite expensive, but low season gave a really good price. Facilities are outstanding, from showers, beds and air condition to kitchen, terrace and common areas. Didn't engage in the social activities, but there are arrangements every night for those who want.

Dormitory was close to the restaurant which played non-stop music, only paused between 11.00 pm and 07.30 am.

Friendly staff, clean room, lovely architecture, working (and fairly fast) WiFi/Internet throughout. Excellent location for San José's museums though by this point in my trip I had done the (superb) ones I wanted to see.

Nothing really, it is what it is: a pleasant value for money hotel in a somewhat downtown location (but it must have been grand before everything else grew up around it).

Great common area with hammocks etc, big kitchen, pool, nice atmosphere.

Significant noise from the nearby road and no windows in dormitory. Towels not included. No headlamps in the dormitory and beds are not very comfortable.

Horrible and terrifying experience. On the 2nd morning, our towels and shoes which were kept outside to dry at the patio were not there. Me and my wife were in panic and shock. As we couldn’t find our belongings As we approached very early morning at the reception(7:30 AM) then the lady said that they took all our belonging (2 towels, 1 T-shirt, 2 hiking sandle and 2 Flipflops) in the night without informing us. We understand that there might be a risk of theft, however if the personal belongings have been taken away by the hotel, then we must have been informed by message or a letter left on the patio. That’s very unfriendly and unprofessional to take away personal belongings of guests without informing. The reasoning from the hotel was “ put your clothes inside the hotel room or give for laundry which costs 22 USD” Although there was no hanger or any hooks in the room to hang any clothes. The hotel receptionist was very rude and was trying to teach us a lesson.

It was not a pleasant experience, and I do not intend to stay at this hotel again. The room I received looked nothing like the photos on Booking. The person at reception said that the room in the photos and the room I received had the same rating. I needed to take medicine and the only water available was tap water. I will definitely not return to this hotel.
