Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWe were advised by the Manager long before our arrival that the 2 level junior suite might be difficult for the seniors that we are. I wanted the experience anyway. However, the steps are dimly lit & while I was very careful somehow in the morning I still managed to fall down the suspended stairs where the steps become very narrow on the turn. Luckily it was mostly my pride that was hurt, not my body so much. I just think I should caution others nearing their 80s that maybe it would be wise to reserve one of their other rooms that do not have a mezzanine bedroom. You’ll still get the wonderful experience of this hotel.
Alfiz is an amazing property. Given that people have been living there since 1777 it was like experiencing history: not quite time travel as we had electricity and plugs to recharge devices. The breakfast will be custom made to your specific tastes by an excellent cook and delightful serving staff. The location was fabulous for exploring Centro, eating in great restaurants, and catching early morning catamaran trips to the Rosarios.

United KingdomThere was nothing we did not like.
The Hotel was clean, comfortable and well located. The staff were welcoming and helped us with problems we had when we arrived going out of their way to make sure we had everything. The breakfast was the best we had on our trip and we stayed at several different hotels. The decor was tasteful and interesting with lovely touches here and there. They helped us with our transport when we left and we were sorry to leave.

United StatesReally nothing!
This was the best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Colombia, and I wish we'd stayed there our whole time in Cartagena! Everything was wonderfully comfortable and welcoming, from the friendly and helpful staff to the free coffee in the lovely library, the strong Wi-Fi, the cleaning service, the comfortable bed and beautiful room to the absolutely gorgeous bathtub. The location was also excellent. The breakfast was very good. It was totally worth it, and really made us feel at home.

United KingdomWe had some confusion with the booking which led to us being forced to pay for a night we didn't want. Their interpretation of our letter explaining what we wanted was misunderstood. That aside, they were very accommodating and allowed us to leave our bags for a few hours when we returned to Cartegena a few days later before catching our ride to the airport.
Great location just off the busiest of the streets in the popular tourist area of the city so it was reasonably quiet even though our room had a lovely wooden balcony directly over the front door. The style and decor was beautifully finished. Friendly attentive staff greeted us with a complimentary cocktail or soft drink option. Our room was the family suite which was actually a small appartment on two floors with a spiral staircase leading up to a bedroom with ensuite that overlooked the sitting area below. A second double room, also ensuite, was off the sitting area with a window facing the inner courtyard and main staircase. The 'pool' on the first floor looks bigger in the pictures, its actually no more than a plunge pool about 3m long with room for just one or two guests to use at a time. You'd be better off booking the very nice hot-tub on the top floor with views over the city. Breakfast was extremely simple but nicely done. There is no restaurant or bar but masses of options were right outside within a few minutes walk. All very luxurious with AC and fans to keep you cool.

United KingdomI can’t fault the hotel at all, it was perfect. I was surprised how different Cartagena was from the rest of the Colombia I visited - there was so much hassle, but this hotel was a welcome sanctuary.
Hotel was a luxuriously peaceful and tranquil escape from the heat and hassle of Cartegena’s old town. Our room had so much character, with a quirky bathroom, living and bed set up, plus artwork and antiques. Breakfast was delicious and had lots of options. There was a little refreshing pool to dip into after sightseeing. Manuel and the rest of the team were really helpful. It felt like I was actually living in a chapter of one Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s books.

United StatesThe hotel itself is gorgeously cute and in a wonderful location (I was in Cartagena to attend a conference in the Convention Center, just outside the walled city). All of the sites I wanted to see in the city were extremely walkable. The included breakfast was fantastic--eggs prepared in so many different ways, delicious fresh fruit, coffee, hot chocolate--it was exceptional! We will definitely stay here again in the future!
