Futon beds are really not confortable, we slept 2 nights but we couldn't have stayed longer because of that. But that's what you expect when staying in an historic hotel, so all in all we loved our stay, and would definitely recommend it.

The perfect place to stay in Pingyao. The position is perfect, in the middle of the ancient city of Pingyao and just on one of the best Pingyao streets, with restaurants, clubs and shops, close to the main attraction of the city. The rooms are luxurious and charming. The breakfast is very good and you can choose between Chinese or west breakfast. The staff is the best you can wish for, and they will provide everything you need. They also provide shuttle service from the train station. I recommend this place.

Water Hotel is located in the middle of the main street, so it's perfect to visit the ancient city. Free shuttle from and to the train station is a great gift. They speak a few basic words in english, but it's not a big issue. The style of the hotel is awesome.

Continental breakfast could be more abundant

Property location is perfect, they can arrange the pick up for free at your arrival to the train station and also back for your departure. Rooms are very new and clean and looks like a hotel boutique. Staff does not speak english but they manage to comunicate using google translate and they were very helpful on providing information about what to do in the city. We were departing early morning and they adapted breakfast schedule so we could eat before leaving which was very kind

The hotel is located inside the walls of the ancient city as well as being on the main street of the area, therefore it is a very convenient for visiting the attractions that Pingyao has to offer. Our booking included a train station pick up so the driver was already waiting for us ready to go and as turns out they also dropped us off at the station after we checked out. The staff came and helped us with our luggage and went through the check-in procedure once we made it to the hotel. The hotel itself is very nicely decorated and keeps a traditional style, our room was on the second floor just above the inside courtyard which is used as a sitting area and to serve breakfast (both Western and Chinese). For dinner they recommended one of the restaurants nearby where we received a voucher which could be used to get a discount, the food there was very tasty and the servers were also very energetic and nice. The room we booked had a tatami floor which was well kept and the bed was also very comfortable. The bathroom was well equipped with soap and other amenities. We only stayed for one night but it would be great to stay for a longer period of time. We received some gifts as we checked out which we are very thankful for, would definitely recommend.

I did not enjoy the breakfast (I chose chinese over western style) so much. The soup was quite watery, while another dish was too salty.

The hotel is very close ( q minute walk) to the south gate and conveniently located along one of the main roads of the town. Staff was very friendly and spoke english well, so communication was very smooth. I also liked that the price included transport from and to the train station.

As foreigners, Pingyao and China in general can be confusing. The staff at the Water Hotel put us at ease immediately. They picked us up from the station, gave great advice on things to see around the city, helped us with our bags on the challenging old streets, and made our stay fantastic. Highly recommend.

It was clean but in our rooms, walls are in need of repainting and carpets with stains, renewed/exchanged. We had a power outage at one night heating up the rooms as the airco stopped and large parts are not arconditioned. The smaller room had a very thin mattress that also needed replacement. Sadly no usb ports.

The hotel on a very good location and in original style with very friendly personel. Perfect communication and very good and even free transfer from and to the station!

Our stay at the Water Hotel was absolutely incredible from start to finish. We were met by a driver at the train station to bring us to the hotel and the same was also organised for us to bring us back to the train station the next day all at no extra cost. The hotel is excellently situated in the middle of the ancient city. The room was beautifully decorated and beyond comfortable and clean. The reception staff were so professional and helpful. They helped us buy tickets to access scenic spots around the ancient city. It's a pity we could only stay the one night, we would have loved to stay longer.

Pricing seemed high.

Great location. Excellent and helpful staff. Loved the property. You are in the heart of the ancient city. The light and sound show is almost next door. Arranged complimentary pick up from station and drop off at station. We would have missed the light and sound show if not their coffee shop staff had not advised us. They also gave us beautiful mementoes when we were leaving.

Beautifully presented hotel in the heart of the old city. Step outside and you've stepped into historic china. The staff were kind and courteous and did their best to make sure our stay was comfortable. The room was beautifully presented and had the heat and lights on when we arrived. Breakfast was good. The pickup and drop off at the train station was a lovely addition which made our stay smooth and comfortable. Very happy with the experience.

The locks on the doors were using padlocks. It took me some time to get used to this.

A fantastic location with a team of friendly staff. As it was winter, the place was generally quiet. However, the walls are thin and you could hear the noises from the corridor. Rooms were clean and cosy. Had a pleasant stay at the hotel. Great place!

The lighting positions in the room were poorly thought out. There were no reading lights and the rest were in unsuitable positions. The walls had stains but we realised the wall material meant they were hard to clean.

The breakfasts were ok. I had Chinese and my wife had western. It was difficult to explain the finer details of our preferences but it wasn’t really a problem. The coffee flavour quality wasn’t good. The hotel itself was quite beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful to the best of their abilities. Good location in the middle of the main tourist zone but quiet despite that.
