Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis isn't a negative and is actually a positive to many. The Sonnenberg is a short hike outside of Murren. It took us a couple of attempts to find the best way back up, which is the Allmendhubel funicular and catching the North Face trail down.
I have to start with the service. I have traveled my fair share, and I have never experienced anyone more attentive and eager to please than Chris. I stayed with my wife and parents. Chris went above and beyond at every turn to ensure we were having the best holiday possible.. Our rooms were spacious, and the balcony views offered everything Switzerland was supposed to be. The views from the hotel were spectacular. You are away from any tourist traffic and steps away from the North Face Trail. Breakfast was solid, and we enjoyed dinner multiple nights during our stay.

United KingdomWe had not appreciated that getting to the hotel was quite an adventure, involving a cable car, train and not insignificant walk uphill, if driving into Lauterbrunnen, where one has to find and pay for parking.
Amazing location, but be aware you have to walk a mile to get there! Stunning views across the valley to the Jungfrau and many glaciers. Very friendly and accommodating host, who did all he could to ensure we weren't disappointed. Lovely dining terrace and balcony in room, both with bathed in sun when the clouds clear.

United StatesIt can be difficult to take day trips around the Bernese Oberland region from this hotel because you have to take a train and a gondola from Murren to Lauterbrunnen, then take additional trains and gondolas to other places. To return to Hotel Restaurant Sonnenberg each night, you have to either hike up a very steep trail (maybe not so hard for younger people, but I am 76) from Murren or take the Allmendhubel funicular (which only runs until 5:00 pm) and then hike an easy downhill trail for about 20 minutes. I stayed at the pension four nights because it is so peaceful and beautiful there and hiked around the area, then I stayed in the town of Murren for four nights so I could visit Grindelwald, Wengen, Kleine Scheidigg, Brienz, and other places more easily and not worry about the 5:00 pm Allmendhubel deadline.
The views of of the mountains from my room and from the outdoor patio were spectacular and the staff was very friendly and helpful. This is one of the most beautiful places in the world, which is why I returned for the third time. There are many hiking trails nearby and it was easy to visit Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen. and take the Shilthorn gondola.

United StatesBreakfast was too expensive...24 euros/person for quite a limited offering, or 8 euros for 2 croissants. Excellent location for for hikers and skiers, but if you wanted to visit restaurants, cable car stations, and shops in the town of Murren, the location is less than ideal. It should be disclosed in the booking information that the hotel is a mile out of town and is 800 feet higher in elevation than the town of Murren. So transportation costs need to be considered. However, if the hotel shuttle is available the ride to town is free.
The location was beautiful and bucolic with unobstructed views of the Alps no matter what direction you looked. The Swiss cows were grazing about 20 meters from the hotel and the ringing of their cow bells was melodious and music to the ear! Our room had a nice balcony where we could gaze at the Alpine meadows while enjoying some cheese and wine. We were there in early July, so fields were filled with wonderful wildflowers! Christoph, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. If the hotel shuttle is available the ride to town is free. Nice selection of liquor and other beverages. Delicious mushroom soup! Very clean room and superior insulation for heat and sound, heated floors. Beautiful wood- paneled walls and awesome mountain scape mural wallpaper on the headboard wall.

Stayed with my wife and two teenage daughters. The location was beyond our expectations. Chris is an excellent host and took good care of us. There are plenty of things to do in Mürren and its vicinity. The scenery is amazing. We would certainly come back and stay here in the future.

United StatesThis beautiful mountain Lodge is located right in the middle of many hikes the tour books suggest. From our balcony we looked out over cows wearing bells, rolling green hills, steep green and rocky cliffs, snowy alps and peak of the season wildflowers. The views are unbeatable. Christoff, the proprietor, was especially kind and thoughtful. The chef made special Alpine dishes, which were delicious, and the staff were very friendly.

United StatesNothing! Just note the warning about the location - it might not be right for all guests. If you’re staying a few days and in decent shape, it’s perfect!
If you are planning to spend several days in the Berner Oberland, look no further than the Hotel Sonnenberg as the home base for your visit. Christoph goes above and beyond to make your visit as warm and comfortable as possible. We spent 4 nights at the Sonnenberg and enjoyed the peace and quiet up the valley above Mürren, away from most of the tourists. Your only sounds at night will be the nearby glacial stream and the cute local cattle and sheep herds. The hotel is located in the Blumental valley beneath the Schilthorn, filled with wildflowers and just a few B&Bs and Pensions. From the hotel, you have some of the best views across the valley of the 3 famous Swiss peaks, the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Note that Mürren is a 30-minute hike down the valley - if you are only staying one night in the area, it’s probably not the place for you to make the most of your visit. It’s much better to stay at least 2 nights, and we enjoyed spending a full 4 nights and days. That gives you plenty of time to explore the whole Lauterbrunnen Valley (and have a better chance of good weather). If you’re visiting to hike (or ski in the winter), there are some great trails right off the property. For a moderate downhill hike, do the North Face Trail from the hotel, breaking off to the Sprutz waterfall at Spielbodenalp. From there, head downhill into Gimmelwald and take the gondola back up to Mürren. The continental breakfast is fresh with local meats, cheeses, and fruits and the coffee is better than most we had in Switzerland. We had two of our dinners at the hotel, and they were both delicious. Prices are comparable to what you’ll pay elsewhere in Mürren for authentic Swiss cuisine. Christoph and his staff made every effort to ensure we had a comfortable stay, and he really tries to make you feel at home. We found ourselves soaking wet and cold after a hike and he was a call away to come pick us up from the Mürren train station.
