The hotel was lovely. The staff were so friendly and the room was really nice and comfortable. I had a great view from my room. Also the restaurant attached to the hotel was a very nice spot for dinner, the food was delicious. Engelbery is beautiful!

The breakfast could have been a more varied.

The rooms were very clean. Polite, positive and friendly staff. Good location. Nice gifts in the room and when check-in. We asked for parking in advance, it was 3 3-minute walk, but it was allowed to load and unload our luggage near the doors of the hotel. Child friendly.

Lighting in the room is insufficient, the fermetures are old-looking. The list of TV channels does not correspond with the actual, and no English channels

Although I liked that the property had character, there were small steps from one flooring to another which could be difficult for an elderly person. Then again, my 83 year old friend with a broken hip and a walking stick did alright.

The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had everything including some wonderful cheeses. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was the best meal of our entire trip. Super clean rooms and bathrooms. A wonderful spot to stay.

I wish there was a kettle in the room - "hot" water available on 1st floor was not hot so could not make tea whenever I liked. I also think it was on the expensive side, but it was a Saturday night after all!

The breakfast was fabulous, I loved it. The room was nice, basic but comfortable; bed very good. Shower was great. Really good base for trips from Engelberg.

Everything met or exceeded my expectations.

Great atmosphere, the family that runs the hotel was very welcoming (especially to via Alpina through-hikers like myself). A very quiet and clean room, refreshing welcome drink. They will even wash sport clothing (look for the laundry basket under the stairs). Amazing breakfast. Chill atmosphere, with a reading nook, piano. I would absolutely stay here again.

May is an in-between season after the skiing so I knew it might be a bit quiet, but I was not expecting it to be as quiet as it was. It was DEAD. It was literally a ghost town with hardly anything open. I was foolish to book a hotel as early as i did because I found out by accident by visiting the hotel website that the bar/restaurant would be closed the days I was there - and so would almost everything else. But I was past the free cancellation period. There was no indication of any of this on booking.com or on my email confirmations - in fact the emails included info about the restaurant as if it were open. As a lone female traveller I’d booked that hotel thinking that if it were a little quiet in the town I could at least eat/drink in my hotel. But no, I had to go out every night and find something that was actually open. There was no fridge or vending machine or anything. The included breakfast I only had on the first day because it wasn’t very good. It was more like a hostel breakfast where you cook your own boiled eggs in a pan and there’s some dry bread and some curls of butter covered in water and a few tiny bits of cheese on a board, while sitting on your own. Very DIY. Just not what I expected in a hotel. It did feel like I was getting a budget experience but without the budget prices. I preferred to go to the Tea Room down the road which was just about the only place around which ever had any people in it. Going to my room was like being in The Shining. Long dark corridors where lights come on if there’s movement. My family, who booked last minute, had found somewhere cheaper by the train station which had an amazing shared kitchen, an attached bar that was actually open and the rooms had nicer views and modern decor.. I wish I could have stayed there instead! The Engelberg’s room was ‘ok’. Basic but clean.
