Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BulgariaI'd say it worth doing some renovation, all the things are not new. It isn't a big problem, just a perception. Actually, from a functional point of view all was good, no complains. Just align your expectation with the fact that Melnik is a quite tiny town and there are no 5-star hotels at all. Also, actually there is no dedicated parking, you just park your car on the streets near the place. However, it works pretty well :)
The location is perfect, the rooms are ok for the price, breakfast is also ok (not superior but fine), the town itself is amazing. I saw a lot of hotels and this one is good for the town and the price. If I'll be there once again, most probably I'll choose this hotel.

AustraliaWould have been nice to be able to make own tea and coffee, but that’s a minor point.
Good location, top of the Main Street and walking distance to local attractions. Parking outside on the street was fine. Lovely clean and spacious apartment room, with excellent breakfast. Good service. Good wifi. We enjoyed Melnik - good restaurants, lovely monastery walks, interesting local wine and wineries..

United KingdomNote that despite the hotel being advertised as having a hot tub / jacuzzi, it is only working for a few months in the summer. Therefore, this information is quite misleading and should be updated properly. The mattress was tired and saggy and the base sheets didn't cover it properly, so I woke up with them twisted everywhere. Bigger sheets would be a good idea.
The person who greeted us at reception (and made breakfast the next day) was lovely. Little English but very helpful. The room was large and clean. The shower was hot. The breakfast was called 'Complet' and consisted of toast, jam, tomatoes, cheese, peppers, cucumbers, hard boiled egg, etc. (this was the vegetarian option). The hotel is in a good position to explore the village.

RomaniaThe mattress was too soft for my taste. It is true that it depends on personal preferences - it was good for others from our group.
Very interesting town. The hotel respects the local architecture. Super staff and great food. The owner is very welcoming.

HungaryStaff's english knowledge is very poor, room was small, and not too clean. Fridge was smelly. Shower and toilet is in one small room, actualy you can have a shower sitting on the toilet. :D Waiter in the restaurant was helpful but pretty slow.
The staff, the restaurant, and the location is outstanding! Dinner (Bolyarka speciality) was awesome, house wine was very good, and the staff was very helpful. They accept dogs without extra costs (in the resturant too). Melnik is wonderfull, you have to try it!

United StatesThe room we selected was a two room apartment, which gave us plenty of room to spread out for reading and working while there. The hotel was right in the center of town and an easy walk to everything. The host was very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast included with our rooms. They offered a choice of cooked breakfast selections, and the second day we had homemade banitsa, a Bulgarian specialty. Theirs was delicious.

United KingdomIt was the worst breakfast we have experienced anywhere in the world. Mekitsi tough- how can that happen? Inferior sirene and watery jam. Only to be topped by the undrinkable coffee and we had to pay for each coffee we had from the machine behind the counter. Then there were the flies and the uncovered meat. We declined breakfast on the second morning only to enjoy our breakfast at the closest OMV garage, with smiley and helpful staff! The bathroom had mould all around the bath and handbasin. Two old bits of soap, half used toilet rolls, no shampoo conditioner and no hairdryer. No kettle as advertised. Pillows were lumpy. Unfortunately, we also booked a table in the restaurant on our first evening ….. average to poor in all respects, especially the Pork in mushroom sauce and French fries, which was a few French fries, covered in what seemed to be a barely reconstitute packed of mushroom soup and a few bits of meat, which we were assured was at sometime in the past a pig! The homemade wine was however, quite good.
We enjoyed the amount of space in the suite, and that it had very efficient air conditioning. The bed was moderately comfortable.
