Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumI was looking for some peace and quiet. I found that here. The castle is beautiful, the rooms clean and spacious. I enjoyed the breakfast in front of the fire place (picture). The village is cute and picturesque. The host gives good advice on what to do in the area. Amazing walks. Good value for money.

United StatesJust would have liked the decor to be a little more finished and more period pieces, but small complaint for an otherwise fun experience.
It was an unique experience to stay in the somewhat remote estate. The Chateau seems to be a work in progress, but what they have finished off is nice. The antiques are wonderful. As an interior designer , I wanted to lend a hand in some areas, but would not hesitate to recommend this place.

BelgiumThe bed was a little bit too small for a couple and a cat 😉
The Chateau is beautiful and feels very authentic. Having animals running around (dog, cats, horses) only added to the lovely location. The caretakers are amazing! They really made us feel so special and taken care of. Meike has a heart of gold and even if we didn’t speak the same language with Herbert we got along very well. He is a master of eggs! The breakfests were an event - so fabulous, nutritious and beautifully served. Our two pets, dog and cat, felt right at home. Meike even provided us with some additional pet beds for their comfort. Everyone was very kind and caring towards our pets which we especially appreciated. The surrounding area is gorgeous and it’s absolutely okay to spend some days here without a car, with Theux a walking distance away. Just remember to book restaurants if you want to be sure you find a place to eat in the evening. Our room was big, cozy, warm and comfortable, with a gorgeous view and a bathtub to fit two.

BelgiumThe room we had although spacious enough had a mouldy smell and was close to the kitchen which in the morning was waking us up a bit earlier then we wanted. Note it was the cheapest room of the hotel.
Lovely authentic chateau near lovely Theux town, Herbert & Maaike are super hosts and served an excellent breakfast in the beautiful wintergarden.

BelgiumNothing. There are plenty of books in the room, free for you to read. I started reading one about History, in German. To sprouse up my German language skills a bit. If anything I didn't like that i couldn't finish it. It was a good book.
This stay was exceptional. Let me tell you in a bit more detail: - The hosts are very friendly and approachable, there is no barrier. We were greeted in person on the day of arrival and given an entire tour of the chateau. My girlfriend only spoke Englisch, which was no problem at all. We effortlessly spoke in Englisch, Dutch and German! What truly sets Herbert and Meike apart is their kindness. Our car broke down on the last day of our stay. Herbert himself tried to help us for 3! hours! Meike even missed an appointment due to our trouble. We were then offered food and drinks for free, while they kept us company untill a towing car could help us out. I owe them my thanks and gratitude. - The room was even better in real life than on the pictures. My biggest worry was the temperature, being close to the Ardennes and wintertime. On first entering the room it all felt nice and warm! Absolutely fantastic, especially considering the size of the room! We even had robes with us in case it wast too cold, safe to say we never used them. The rooms themselves feel grand and authentic. You can tell Herbert used his knowdlegde of antiques to furbisch the rooms. Truly well done! And the view, it was unparalleled! 3 massive windows overlooking the forest and fields. - The bathroom too deserves special attention. We could see outside at night while in the bath, counting the stars. You don't experience that often. We loved it. And the bathroom itself was massive, with a shower too. Also had a royal Duck! - Breakfast itself was an event. We were there for roughly 90 minutes. And the hosts saw to our every needs. We effectively had a personalised breakfast, and company of the dog of the castle, Tessa! If you wanted something more, simply ask and the hosts were so kind as to provide. Always in good humor. They also gave us sightseeing tips, too many for us to go to. We could not have asked for a better service to start our days. The stay is fantastic.

NetherlandsEverything was perfect!
I honestly don’t know where to begin - I’m still full of impressions! Meike and Herbert are wonderful caring hosts who opened their home for guests from all over the world. The chateau is several hundred years old and just visiting this property would leave one speechless! We’ve had an opportunity to spend 2 nights here and it was “going back in time” experience. Their home is full of antiques and every corner has a story to tell. The chateau is kept in great shape and level of details and thoughtfulness speaks a lot about the commitment of the hosts and their love for beautiful interior and lifestyle. We were completely emerged into the atmosphere - and felt very sad when we had to leave. Meike and Herbert personally welcomed us despite the fact that we’ve arrived quite late. The room we booked was perfectly arranged, and everything needed for a short term stay was there! Even the mini bar was full of different drinks. In the morning, we’ve had the breakfast in the salon, and this is something not to be skipped! The experience of dining in a vintage room, with candles and beautiful classical music in the background will be hard to beat. The breakfast itself was so versatile and had good selection of cheese, ham, bread and eggs. We were sipping coffee and watching horses and chickens passing by in the garden. So relaxing and serene. Meike and Herbert thank you for unforgettable weekend! We will be back very soon!

Breakfast was EXTRAORDINARY, do not skip it! :-D And older house like this does have some technical challenges, but for us that did not take away from the pleasure of staying here.
