There was a strange smell in my room, which I was unable to get rid of (but did become accustomed to).

Perfect location, historical building and lovely views from the balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room with sun streaming in.

The hotel is a 1914 Irish pub, so old and in need of some maintenance. Stayed in room 17. Very nice room and big ensuite but the ensuite needed a number of maintenance items and could have been cleaner. Lots of stairs to negotiate. They claim Wi Fi but very dodgy. TV reception was poor and any connection was difficult.

Great location, 25 George St. About 10 min walk from Circular Quay station. Easy roam back into the Rocks , to the Harbour Bridge and the OPera House. The hotel is a 1914 Irish pub, so old and rustic with atmosphere, not sterile, which we liked. Excellent food. Nice and comfortable room (but old). Big ensuite. Very quiet despite its location. Breakfast was a 15% discount at the "4 Doors Down" (from the pub) cafe.

I know why it was cheap but I didn't let the noise from the hotel to bother me & would stay there again.

It was close to what I needed.

Not good enough for my 1 night stay!

The room: had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling; skirting boards were covered in thick dust; had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to ask for a jug of water to fill an electric kettle; no hot water in one of the shared bathrooms.

I liked the location, being within The Rocks area in Sydney. The double bed was comfortable enough being inner spring. The room was quiet from street noise. The TV had good reception for Netflix.

I guess you get what you play for. The bathrooms are shared, but right outside the door. The beds weren't comfy (please invest in pillow mattress covers) The wall in our room was all peeling. No aircon.

Location is perfection. If you want to explore the Rocks and Circular Quay this is a brilliant option. The Market is also right out the door so you can get a yummy gozleme or other food from the food carts. The Hotel also has a great cafe 4 Doors Down, which we had an excellent cheap breakfast at. But the Mercantile also has an EXCELLENT menu and all day and late night dining. Very reasonably priced and the best chips in Sydney. Yum, I'm missing them already. Drinks are also reasonably priced. The staff are absolutely lovely. They also have great bands, musicians, dancing and party atmosphere. Had the funnest weekend.

Terribly uncomfortable bed and pillows one being too hard the other too soft My room was also very noisy - not talking about the pub (this one I didn't hear at all as my room was on the other side), but there are ventilators in the yard which made me wear earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones almost all the time when I was in the room or sleeping

Very friendly staff and location which is hard to beat

Just the smell of the room was a bit off, not sure why. It is an older hotel.

It was fun and friendly. The toilets and rooms were relatively clean for the age of the facility. The location was fabulous, as were the staff. The food and drink were reasonably priced. The Rocks markets were right out our door. And the daily Irish bands were really fun. I would stay here again.

Bed was uncomfy - shared bathroom (but we knew that before we booked so not really a problem - maybe there'll be ensuites after the renovations.)

Great location - showing its age, but there are going to be renovations soon. Fanatastic staff.
