Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing.
The hotel is located in a brilliant spot in Dürnstein, right in the Danube. Parking is easy. Staff are excellent and provided a wonderful service. The room was great - large and clean. Lots of storage space and a free mini-bar which was much appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day.

United KingdomNo shaving point in the bathroom and no plug near any mirror so drying my hair was a bit of a faff. They charge 4.50 euros for a carafe of tap water in the restaurant which we thought was a bit naughty
Lovely old property with lots of charm and lovely staff

Czech RepublicI think (?) employees of the hotel live in the back of the parking lot (or some activities are going on there). There were some strange people around and it does not look so nice also with smoking areas near the parking .... is not really feeling like you are in an expensive five-star place. The service quality is rather unsmooth, some staff is extremely good and polite others are not and for instance non-guest trying to have a coffee or just dinner were not really treated politely... Even if this does not relate to us, is never pleasant to see other people not being well taken care of in a courteous and polite way. Some topics for improvement but nothing that would keep us from going again...
This is a very nice and charming hotel (a castle) with superb views to the Wachau valley and certainly located in the best spot to explore the area. The breakfast was superb and the dinner very good. Staff was generally attentive.

United StatesBe aware that that is no air conditioning at night if the outside temperature is below 20 degrees centigrade. I wish the staff had mentioned it or there was a notice in the room. You then must sleep with the windows open and our room was still a little warm. I also thought the bath towels were a tad worn and tattered and not up to the usual Relais & Chateau usual sumptuous standard.
If you want to visit the Wachau valley this is the place to stay. Tastefully renovated property with modern features while still maintaining originality. Incredible views. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. Nice buffet breakfast with a wide selection of food choices. The main restaurant is good as well for dinner. There is an outside pool, which was too cold for me, and an indoor pool for those wanting warmer water. One of the most attractive indoor pool areas you will find. A terrific winery open for tastings was within walking distance. The area around the hotel is charming.

United StatesWe had a newly remodeled room that was very nice, except it was like a sauna (too hot) all night long. The hotel wouldn’t allow the AC to be used until the outside temp was over 80, but our room was well over that!!!! The river view only rooms have better air circulation.
Spectacular location right on the Donau. Great views, great food and very nice staff!

My friend and I asked for a specific room and we got it. We were amazed by the beauty of it ! Ask for THOR1, it's incredible ! The staff is sooooo nice and does everything to make your stay perfect. We were welcomed with a plate of fruits and some home made chocolate. We received a compliment drink in a little bar that belongs to the hotel 3 blocks away. The drinks in the fridge were free. The breakfast was really good. We had dinner on the terrace and it was just delicious ! The view on the Danube was amazing with the sunset. We strongly recommend this hotel ! We just LOVED it ! You won't regret it !

United KingdomThe only thing to note was the room temperature was slightly too warm and we couldn’t obviously adjust the aircon in the main room rather than the hallway. We still had a fab night sleep so nothing major.
Fantastic hotel with beautiful views and an old Viennese style which is kept very clean. The restaurant is wonderful and the staff went over and above to ensure we had an amazing stay. We had lots of questions about where to hike, cycle run and eat and the reception staff were very helpful always. The room was spacious and clean with a huge bath tub which was lovely.

United StatesThe staff at this hotel was phenomenally attentive -- especially Isabel, who took great care of us. It is in the heart of Duernstein and it is certainly worth the splurge. The rooms were very large and the views were fantastic. I was originally worried about parking, but they had plenty of room for it. We had some rain on our first day and so the indoor pool was a huge hit with the kids. Definitely would stay here again.

Czech RepublicI have to complain of the reception staff and communication.Their booking extranet was attacked by a hacker and the hackers were sending virus where the customer was asked for the payment and they could steal your money. However luckily my bank found it and the bank blocked my card.I was contacting the hotel by phone for explaining the situation and for apology. And nothing. They did not suggest any solution,no apology, compansation, nothing. My both cards were blocked because of this hotel mistake and the did not tell me anything to apology. When we arrived, they did not tell me anything about the situation..It was a huge disappointment of the stay. I would never come back, because they do nor care about their guests.
Everything about this hotel was fine, but the communication.

United StatesParadise! From the moment you walk under the beautiful archway through the medieval front door, you’re met with elegance and history around every corner. And the staff is fantastic! Can’t say enough about the warm welcome and the absolutely marvelous breakfast. Make sure you give yourself a full hour to enjoy this splendid breakfast spread (a buffet with champagne and fresh organic juice, artisan bread rolls from the famous local bakery, eggs and coffee prepared to your wish, and a lovely 2-tiered plate with meats, cheeses and all kinds of dips.) Needless to say, the food is incredible! And the rooms + views are second to none (we could look right out on the ruins where King Richard the Lionheart had been imprisoned). The chocolate and fruit welcome dish was also a beautiful touch. Thank you for the most wonderful and romantic stay (ended up being our engagement trip!). We will be back! :)

United StatesStaff nice and helpful, but a little serious. Not sure if it was a language, or culture, issue. Did help us with dinner reservations and really liked the authentic German food at Alte Kloster Keller. Mostly helpful, but for a 5 star hotel there was no porter for our bags, and parking was a little tight when we arrived. Although our room very large, the AC unit was underpowered (but it is an old castle). Durnstein itself is very small, and very quiet after 9pm. Hotel bar basically closed, although staff said they would get whatever we requested, but really not much going on in the evening there.
Beautiful architecture, neat decor, and large rooms. Welcome glass of wine much appreciated. Easy to hike to the top and see the ruins, and nice promenade to walk or bike along the Danube. Nice indoor and outdoor pools, and fitness center seemed adequate although did not use. Afternoon complimentary tea is also offered. Great location to visit Melk for 1/2 day as well. Turndown service great as well. Breakfast had plenty of options.
