All I needed was a comfortable place to lay my head down for the night at a reasonable rate. Thorpe Lodge was decent value for money, nice comfortable bed, and a piping hot shower. The guy who booked me in was very friendly and helpful, and although the hotel itself is nothing special, frankly, I wasn't worried about that. The room was clean enough and uncommonly well stocked with tea bags and sachets of coffee, plus the usual towels and tolietries provided.. Close to the railway station and bus stops for those using public transport and free parking out the front for drivers. There is also a really handy Co-op right across the road.

The hotel itself looks rather run down,, which would be off-putting to many, and the furniture is somewhat shabby looking. Given the warmth of the welcome I received, however, and also knowing that this hotel is pet friendly, overall my experience was positive and I would return again, if only to interact with the lovely chap at the front desk.

Although the room was small, it had everything the weary traveller needed. The shower was excellent. In terms of location, anyone who knows Cambridge will know just how far the railway station is from the town centre. The hotel is conveniently located about halfway between the two.

Cambridge, like so many other university towns (see how much a room is in St Andrew's, for example), is expensive to stay in. So in relative terms, it was good value. The room was a (very) small single, bordering on the claustrophobic. For example, the bathroom door couldn't open completely because of the location of the bed.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and very warm which was much appreciated during a cold April. The village of Landbeach is very pretty and the cottage is in a quiet location.

There was nothing we didn't like but the stairs a narrow and steep and may not be easy to use for some people.

Room was good for single person, bed was a bit hard but you cannot cater for everyone, did not disturb sleep. Evening meal was very nice and the lads behind the bar were friendly,

only thing that did let it down was the lack of a breakfast, had a choice of cereals or toast with coffee or tea although it was sold as a continental type breakfast, that normally means meats and cheeses with yoghurt and fruit
