Aurora Queen Resort Igloos 4 stars

Saariselka

Aurora Queen Resort Igloos is situated in Saariselka and features a bar. Featuring a restaurant, the 4-star resort has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. There is free private parking and the property features paid airport shuttle service. We visited this hotel for our honeymoon, and it was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. The hotel, the igloos (rooms) and facilities were stunning, as was the nature around it. The hotel is located in the (very snowy) forest, and the whole experience was magical. First off, the owners, Nina and Pasi are extremely charming, friendly, and warm people. They surprised us with some sparkling wine for our honeymoon when we first entered our igloo. Beyond that, they catered to our every request, and were always asking how we were, whether we were enjoying ourselves, and were interested to get to know us at every opportunity. They are wonderful, and they are a reason alone to visit this hotel. The other staff members of the hotel are also amazing, extremely friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. It is clear that everyone cares about the customers and providing them with a good experience. We want to make a special mention to Henna, who makes anyone happy after a few moments of talking to her, Bjorn, with his contagious enthusiasm about nature, and Anne-Marie, who surprised us by being a fluent Greek speaker! All of these people made our stay special. The hotel itself is quite secluded, but it offers various activities that are fun and interesting, like snowmobiling, husky riding, and others. If you’re lucky, you will be able to see the aurora lights. It’s important to know that this is not guaranteed, as it depends on various factors. We were lucky enough to see them on our first night, and I must say that it was a truly unique experience. The hotel restaurant is also great, especially during night time. On one of the nights I had a reindeer steak, and it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had! I can’t say enough about how special the igloos are. You have to experience it to understand it! This is definitely a special hotel that offers an unforgettable experience to those seeking a winter and especially a Christmasy retreat. We would highly recommend it :)

Everything was PERFECT, the location, the food, the hospitality, the bed, the souvenirs, the safari to look for the Auroras, and the staff, special thanks to my guide on the safari and to Anu, and in general, they are so helpful, welcoming, they do really make sure that you'll stay will be as pleasant as you want it! One of the best experiences of my life, since I was able to see the Auroras in both the Safari and from my room, definitely will go back!

Northern Lights Village Saariselkä

Saariselka

Set in Saariselkä, Northern Lights Village Saariselkä features a restaurant, bar and free WiFi. The property has its own reindeer paddock, where guests are welcome to watch and pet the reindeer. Free parking is available. Dinner - The hotel provided a variety of meats including salmon, herring, and lamb. We don't eat beef, so it was such a pleasure to have other kinds of meat :). Breakfast - The breakfast variety is good enough, bread, boiled eggs, herrings, fresh pears - are good for us. Room - so like as it was advertised, half igloo with clear glass. We enjoyed the view of Pines at day and enjoy the stars at nights. The room had enough electricity outputs for our appliances. The wifi was good, once connected it stayed. What we liked the most was we saw the NORTHERN LIGHTS at our first night!! And it was more than 40 minutes. The hotel provided us the application for Northern lights alert and it worked so precisely.

Ranua Resort Holiday Villas 4 stars

Ranua

A fully equipped kitchen, dining area and flat-screen TV are featured in each Ranua Resort Holiday Villas apartment. All provide a fireplace, drying cabinet and 2 bathrooms. Some units also have a washing machine. We wanted to visit Ranua wildlife park to see Finnish animals and found it very easy to book an overnight stay in Villa Gulo Gulo. This included a free buffet breakfast as well as access to the wildlife park for 2 consecutive days for the price of one. We went on the afternoon on day of arrival and again the next morning, and saw all the animals over the two days. We stayed in Ahma which was perfect for a family of 5, and had excellent facilities, including a nice sauna, wood-fired heater and particularly nice lighting. We also booked an experience via Villa Gulo Gulo and went on an Aurora hunt by snowmobile at night. The warm clothing provided is a must as the temperatures are well below freezing and the wind chill factor is significant. Our Spanish tour guide was friendly and informative and we enjoyed hot Glögi and toasted marshmallows by a fire in the wilderness. Seeing the snow-laden trees at night was a special experience and this tour exceeded our expectations, even though we did not see the Aurora on the tour (due to cloudy weather). We would highly recommend staying at Villa Gulo Gulo with a family.
