The hotel is located in a very tranquill neighbourhood, at the same time it's quite close to the city centre and is very easily accessible by public transport. The room was amazing in all possible ways—equipped with a kitchennete, very thoughtful layout, the comfiest bed, a lovely bathroom, plus a stunning view over Ij river. The hotel amenities are also top notch, we stayed for quite a bit (while looking for our permanent home) and really appreciated the gym, wellness, and also the laundry facilities. The Boat & Co front desk team have been super nice and helpful at all times!

The feeling of being in a normal, homely place that was understandable (e.g. there is an ordinary kettle, a heater - no complicated gadgets that make one feel frustrated and stupid). Superb location in beautiful Jordaan district - we didn't take breakfast but were given excellent recommendations by hotel staff for restaurants very close-by. The free coffee and tea all day and books and games in a communal area is a great idea!

IJmuiden is really just a container port and lacks any kind of facility for solo travellers or families. Okay there are the dunes and the North Sea coast to explore but there are plenty of more pleasant places I would choose to stay along that coastline. I found one little restaurant / take away place with a bar near my hotel where I was made to feel welcome but that was it. The town centre was a mess with various building works all over the place and there is of course the scenic view over the container port to the steel works. I'm sorry to say but the only saving grace about IJmuiden is that Amsterdam is a minute bus ride away and Haarlem about 20 minutes. I've stayed in many places in Noord-Holland but this one will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.
