The location was great. The food was great - nice to have home-grown vegetables cooked well with the meals. The staff was helpful arranging tours and reserving the return boat. The room was comfortable. The views across the river from the dining area and the terrace below it were amazing.

Guacimo lodge sits in 40 hectare primary forest property located close to El Castillo and Indio Maiz biosphere reserve. It features river view bungalows, a large rancho, a yoga deck and a pool. We had an excellent stay in Guacimo. The place itself is beautiful and the facilities were excellent, however it was the staff and excursions that made the trip so special. Manuel had been so helpful corresponding with us before the stay about the logistics of arriving at Guacimo. Our boat from San Carlos was full by the time we arrived and so Guacimo helped by sending their boat to collect us, without which we'd have been stuck for the night in San Carlos. They helped us arrange to see everything that we wanted to whilst there and gave us some great advice on where to go in Nicaragua after our stay at Guacimo. Gustavo was a brilliant guide and taught us so much about the local history & wildlife. Franklin was there to help with any and all queries we had and was great with helping us arrange our onward journey and Margarita cooked us the most wonderful food!

Offering river views, Hostal Don Frank in San Carlos offers accommodations and a casino. We stayed for two nights, once after arriving on the bus from Managua and then again when returning on the boat from El Castillo. It is in the perfect location for the bus terminal and boat port (2 minute walk). The rooms are basic but clean. Great value for money.

A great place to stay! A lovely old house, clean, comfortable and on a quiet street close to the centre for the bus and boats. The owners are extremely kind people, I needed to change my dates twice due to a chane of plans and then unforseen circumstances and they were very generous and understanding. I booked and stayed here both times I was in San Carlos. Overall, fantastic value and would absolutely recommend a stay here!

Cano Negro is a birder's dream and Andrea will make the experience even better. In his lodge alone you can see more than 100 species including the beautiful toucans and also rare wrens and all kind of colorful Tanagers and of course the famous Cano Negro waterbirds. You can also see the usually very shy Spider Monkeys very close when they visit his garden. Well done and we come again!

Located in Caño Negro, 28 miles from Rio Celeste Waterfall, Poponjoche Lodge Caño Negro provides accommodations with free WiFi, air conditioning and access to a garden with a terrace. Great accommodation in Cano Negro. Family who run it is really nice and helpful, there were no problem with anything. The accommodation is really nice, it sits in a large garden which is connected to small lagoon. It is clean, has coffee maker (which is important for me:). Next to the Poponjoche is restaurante Fogon, which has the best meal I ate during our month in Costa Rica. We are birdwatchers so wanted to take the tour on lagoons. We did our search in the village and than decided to take son of owner of Poponjoche as guide since he can speak english. His father who is good bird guide went also with us. We were happy we choose them. Beware, there is NO BUS from Cano Negro to Upala or Los Chiles on Sunday!!! And taxi can get really expensive on this day.
