My Suite Hotel is located in a panoramic position, near L'Aquila city centre. All rooms are air-conditioned and parking is free. Everything was excellent! We were very well received by lovely staff. The room was nice, very clean. As for the breakfast, it was the best we have ever had in a hotel and served by delightful ladies.

We were looking for a special experience and our organizers made the right choice! Staff and Admin were very helpful and very easy to communicate with via messages and phone. Location is great and also gives you a chance to wrap yourself in an intriguing medieval atmosphere in the evening as you stroll through the beautifully-lit alleys, breathe the freshest air and enjoy those silent noises coming from an era long-gone. Our room was very special and unique in many ways. We were on our honeymoon arranged by an excellent Italian organizer and Host throughout Italy over 18 days, amazing. It was the perfect fit for Santo Stefano di Sessanio, among all the other unique experiences, reserved only for us thanks to our Hosts' exclusive access to incredible places and experiences. The hotel was quite nice. It's away from the nite noise of the main part of town but just a short walk. The restaurant was great, though we only got pizza and calzone but every table had something I wanted. That said, the pizza was amazing. You asked about the bed above. I have a bad back so it's hard to tell, but it didn't hurt so that is a plus. I liked the height, seemed a bit lower than average and I kinda liked that.

Poggio Picenze
This hotel is on the town’s (Poggio Picenze) main road and easy to get to. The hotel is close to Gran Sasso National Park, and a short hop to Sulmona. The proprietor was friendly and accommodating, giving us a ground floor room when he realized the steps might be a challenge for us. The rooms are spacious, the internet is perfect, the bathrooms modern. The associated restaurant had fine food, though a bit pricey. The breakfast includes delicious crostada and other tasty homemade Italian baked goods.
Assergi
Ideal location right at the foothills of Gran Sasso. The apartment was nestled up a tiny street in a lovely little village. The host Peppe was very friendly and provided a lovely breakfast. We chatted about the mountains and he advised on some of the best hikes in the area. Parking was a bit tight and the streets were quite narrow so be weary if driving anything larger than a Fiat 500!
The receptionist was extremely welcoming, including being able to provide a snack when the kitchen was theoretically closed. The hotel in general had a relaxed atmosphere, and the location provides a good base from which to begin exploration of the Gran Sasso in summer. The breakfast was fine, and the coffee very good. The WiFi is surprisingly good for a mountain location.
Very nice Hotel a bit out of town. Good shaded parking under some trees. Popular location for weddings, however since the Restaurant is about a 100m away no noise. Good starting point for road cycling tours in the Area: Campo Felice, Campo Imperatore (Gran Sasso),.... There is a shopping mall about 2.5km away with a huge Spazio Conad.
Castel del Monte
We had a great short stay in the beautiful village..we could walk to local cafes & restaurants & easily reach Gran Sasso & the castle. We came for cooler temperatures & and hiking. It was perfect for us as a base. We slept so well in coll temperatures with no mosquitos Clean comfortable place with helpful, friendly staff.
Location was ideal for exploring the amazing Gran Sasso. Staff were first class - very friendly and helpful. The gardens, which feature highly in their publicity were almost totally neglected and extremely disappointing. It turns out they are owned by the national park, not the hotel, and their upkeep is a disgrace.
Castel del Monte
The location in Castel del Monte and next to Gran Sasso is perfect for those visiting the area. 10’ car drive you will be there. There are no many properties or hotels to stay so is good to find one with good communication. Free biscuits and coffee is a nice touch.

Residenza La Torre is an Albergo Diffuso and, as such, our superior one-bedroom apartment was essentially a small house; no complaints there. This was our third stay in Santo Stefano and was the best yet; it lacked nothing in comparison to the Albergo Diffuso Sextantio (where we had previously stayed) and was a good deal cheaper, so definitely cost-effective. The kitchen was stocked and replenished with a good selection of breakfast foods (bread, fruit, cheese, prosciutto, pastries and more) and also had a Nespresso machine with milk frother and, crucially, a moka pot with good ground coffee. The office/reception is a few streets away in the centre of the village, but it’s a very small village and so was no problem. And when we did have a problem; our door key snapped off in the lock; I just called on Whatsapp and the guy on duty came right over with a spare key and was able to remove the stub of the old one. The first time we stayed in Santo Stefano was 2013 and it’s definitely busier than back then, but that’s a good thing being that the whole point of the Albergo Diffuso was to bring life back to an abandoned village. And it’s all relative; staying here for a few days still feels like stepping back in time to a pace and quality of life that’s a joy to experience surrounded by the beauty of this green heart of Italy.
