Visalam is a century-old lovingly-restored palatial home in Kanadukathan village of the Chettinad region in Tamil Nadu. We loved everything! We stopped in Chettinadu to take a break in between places since we had a long drive and it revealed to be one of the nicest moments of the trip if you want to take a break. The staff was simply amazing and available, but also informed on the heritage of the town and the palace. Service was equally great, the gardens, and pool were dreamy, the room was extremely spacious and extra clean. Personally, I loved the little details like finding good quality soaps, moisturizers and coconut oil at your disposal! Both in the morning and afternoon there was free tea and coffee, also the hotel organizes activities during the day, like a cooking class, visits to the town, etc. You really won't get bored!

We had a really great stay at Indian Residency. The owner, his family and staff were extremely kind and they care a lot about their guests. Srirangam island is an extraordinary place and although the residency is outside the main city it is close enough for convenient tuktuk service. The twin room was huge in comparison to most homestays in Tamil Nadu and the marble floor kept the place really cool along with the AC. There are nice basic amenities in the room for guests too.

My best hotel since the beginning of my trip in Tamil Nadu. Quiet and clean room, nice bathroom, and a very large and quiet terrace, perfect for staying in the evening. A few touches with little shampoo, bottles of mineral water. The hotel is in a good location, less than 8 minutes walk from the temple. Suresh and all the staff are nice and friendly, doing everything to help me from start to finish. I highly recommend!
I love Tamil Nadu hotels because they are located in good locations and have decent parking space. They also offer 20% discount to senior citizens, but unfortunately that was not given to me as I had booked from Booking.com. They also have complimentary breakfast at most outlets, but when compared to the TN Hotel in Kanyakumari, the one at Tanjore had limited quantity breakfast, and even the spread was limited.
One of the most beautiful small hotels that I have stayed in for a very long time - painstakingly renovated but still comfortable and inviting. Lovely staff and the nicest dose that we ate during our week-long trip to Tamil Nadu. An added plus are the charming hosts and lovely pool.

Old but reliable hotel in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The best thing in this hotel is probably its excellent staff! From the front desk to the restaurant Chef (Ajmal), everyone showed efforts to make me feel welcomed. Very nice swimming pool too!
This hotel has an excellent restaurant on the roof, possibly the best in Madurai. It also has a bar in the basement which is very handy after being out in the burning hot Tamil Nadu Sun.
