Corozal has a cultural Center, a town square with activities. You can go by boat to Cerros to see ruins, where there is a nice restaurant and friendly people, beautiful area.
If you have a rental car drive to Cerros ruins. The hand-cranked ferry is a great experience (they crank it for you). Those ruins are awesome and not full of tourists . The only Mayan ruins in Belize on salt water (Corozal Bay) Bring your repellant though cause it was the buggiest of all the places we visited throughout Belize!
All the people were nice and helpful,. the one draw back that would help the city of Corozal is pick up the trash. Start a program of one street at a time, I adopt this street and promise to keep my street clean. Then put up a sing with there name on it. I'm moving there myself and do part to help. Thank You William S.
If you are a snob, and tend to be critical, don't bother. If you are open to meeting friendly people in a relaxed atmosphere, fresh air, beautiful waters, then you will love Corozal. It isn't L.A. or NYC but, then again I don't like concrete landscaping, or rats. I like Corozal very much.
Corozal is a beautiful town filled with nice people. It's also surrounded with lots to do in neighboring towns. One week went very fast.
The Corozal Bay is gorgeous! The town, the food, and the people are quite diverse for such a small place. There are lots to do within the town, the surrounding bay and inland. The people are friendly and helpful.
Corozal does not have a wealth of sandy beaches but it has a lot of waterside parks and warm carribean water. Excellent reasonably priced bars with genuinely warm and friendly staff. Blues water side bar and gardens makes a great spot for a day of relaxation and good eating. Stick to the local eats such as cervezes [local shrimp marinaded in lime juice with lots of tomato onion with fresh herbs] delicious and healthy. For another good feed try the local traditional dish. Variations of fried chicken, pork or beef with rice and beans and a side of fried plantain all for $4USD. The best part is the local people who are naturally friendly and helpful and above all cheerful. We used belizevipautorental.com and had cheerful and informative service. Stay away from the ferry service to Ambergris - awful. Pay the extra and fly Island Air.
People were always nice and helpful. Our favorite place to eat dinner was Blues. Our favorite lunch place was Blue Breeze. Our favorite breakfast place was June's Kitchen. Very few streets had street signs so a local map of Corozal was very helpful. We enjoyed visiting the local air markets and seeing all the fresh produce available. Proximity to Chetumal, Mexico was another great bonus as we enjoyed our visit there as well. We found many ex-pats living in Corozal who always came over to us and introduced themselves. The only negative we saw in Corozal were many potholes on unpaved side streets.
Corozal is a "mixed bag". Most streets are un-paved, hot and dusty as well. Cell and wifi can be spotty to non-existent. Nice people limited dining. Found NO food to be had on Tuesday night. the only ready dining was Chinese Food. I didn't travel 1,500 miles to eat Chinese take-out! Few to no street signs, but the whole country has that problem, If your GPS isn't working you best know how to read a map without the help of road signs., The only restaurant we ate as the "Pisces" restaurant. Great food. Fish was fantastic. Travel around Corozal was rugged. I'm not young so..... there was not much to be done there for old folks.
We weren’t expecting to stay in Corozal, but last minute changes to onward connections meant that we unexpectedly had to spend a night in the town... but we ended up being very happy that we had to! Mirador Hotel was a very pleasant place to stay, excellently located right on the seafront and with a large roof terrace overlooking the sea. Staff were very helpful, for example recommending a great local spot where we could get dinner and drinks. Large room with AC. Overall, good value.
The owner Charlie greeted us at check in and answered all our questions about the hotel and surrounding area. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The location is very good. close to the ferry terminal and it has a nicely stocked grocery store literally right next door. It is a great stopover for a border crossing or to stay in Corozal for a few days. I will definitely stay there again when we travel through Belize
The location on Corozal Bay is excellent, although only some of the rooms look out onto the bay. The rooms are spacious and bright, and the beds are comfortable, if a bit small. Because of its location outside Corozal and surrounded by a generous garden, it's also wonderfully quiet.
Rum Punch has a backpacker hostel vibe. It is going through a "remodel" of sorts. The veranda is very pleasant and the water access from the dock across the road is excellent. Location is good for exploring Corozal Town. Easy to meet fellow occupants.
Great, comfortable beach hut in a beautiful setting. Came here for some rest and relaxation after some long drives across Mexico and back. Dave and Damaris were really lovely hosts, and I can't recommend them enough.
