Located in the center of Kuchl, the garni hotel Wagnermigl is right on the Tauernradweg (bicycle trail) and 12 mi south of Salzburg. The garden includes a sun terrace and a children’s playground. The rave reviews on this place are fully justified - the hotel is truly exceptional in every respect. Kuchl is a small, but very attractive village about 20 minutes by local train from the Salzburg HBF. I had been cross country skiing there many years ago, and when finding many hotels in Salzburg fully booked or over-priced, we decided to go to Kuchl, and I was impressed by the great reviews on Booking.com, and the hotel turned out to be even better than expected! A hotel of comparable quality in Salzburg would cost at least 5-times as much (and maybe even more). The hotel is attractive in the style of an Austrian village, and although in the valley of the Salzach River, it has amazing views of the high Alps that separate Austria and Germany. Ther are numerous opportunities for hikes in the region, from short easy walks to serious mountain climbing. However, the best thing about the hotel was the warm, welcoming, friendly staff who provide personal attention. Even though the hotel was not crowded, they provided a full, delicious Austrian breakfast with more options than even the most famous hotels in Austria. They recommended a great restaurant for dinner, which serves both excellent Austrian and Balkan cuisine. The room was reasonably spacious and well equipped, with a nice balcony overlooking the Alps. Furthermore, the hotel is a one minute walk from the train station, with local trains to and from Salzburg leaving every 30 minutes. Except for a few central hotels in Salzburg, it was almost as quick to get to the sites in this city as it is from many hotels in town. I have been to Austria many times, and the Wagnermigl and the town of Kuchl represent the best of traditional Austrian life and local color. I recommend it most enthusiastically!

Located at the entrance to Bad Vigaun, 9.3 mi from Salzburg, Hotel Langwies features a spa area and a bathing pond. The room design, the view from windows, the balcony which was divided in two (1 for the cold season, 1 for the warm season), the wellness area, the restaurant, the fact that wherever you went, there were pots filled with apples, full of taste and you could serve yourself at any time. The kids play ground. The nice/warm rest area at the reception. Everything in this hotel is thought out to the smallest detail. Behind the hotel is a train station and we had a connection to Salzburg every half hour. At the reception we received free tickets for public transport for the 3 days, for the whole family (2 adults+2 kids). We were completely pampered at this hotel. I definitely recommend it.

Located in the center of Russbach, Hotel Kerschbaumer is just 1312 feet from the cable car into the Dachstein-West Ski Area. It features a sauna and a fossil exhibition. Spacious and comfortable room, great spa area (that is free to use!), lovely staff, superb atmosphere inside and outside of the hotel and for a very good price! You can't go wrong with this choice!

Dating from 1592, this traditional hotel is located in the pedestrian zone of Abtenau, 1640 feet from the ski area. The Goldener Stern offers rooms with free WiFi access and free parking. We have stayed here for 4 nights, it was wonderful stay! Food, rooms, staff... everything was perfect. We enyojed it a lot. Hopefully we will visit this hotel again.

Only a 10-minute walk away from the center of Abtenau, this hotel and restaurant is right next to the valley station of the Karkogel cable car. Beautiful setting and just a short walk from the city centre. Also loved the food. Staff was very helpful and professional.

Located in Annaberg im Lammertal, 25 miles from Eisriesenwelt Werfen, Winterstellgut provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. If you ever find yourself in the area please do yourself a favor and book a room into this amazing place! The guesthouse is outstandigly beautiful the rooms are extra clean and spacious the views to the surrounding nature are to die for and the food is delicious. On top of that each and every member of the staff is very kind helpful and warm hearted people. Special mention to Dominik that welcomed us and made us feel at home. We cannot recommend this place enough! Its one of the best travel experiences we ever had!
