The room was massive (I think it’s listed as a 3 person room it felt like it was big enough for 4). The private onsen was great - we used it 3 times during our 1 night stay. The public onsen was also great. But by far the best part of our stay was the staff - they are super friendly and adorable. We have very very limited Japanese, but they communicated with us well. They spoke enough English to tell us about our stay. They put out the futons for us while we were out for dinner (they asked what time we would be out and clearly communicated to us that they would come into our room during that time to put out the futons) and brought breakfast to our room the next morning at the time we requested. Breakfast was delicious too, with a great variety! I think this is my favourite hotel stay of not only this Japan trip, but also any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. 100% recommend!

It is a lovely hotel, ideally situated above Nagoya Station—large rooms with multiple elevators to the rooms. Housekeeping was top-notch. The front desk and guest relations were polite and helpful. The view, especially at night, was spectacular! I had a room on the 45th floor and felt like I was in the tallest building, looking down on Nagoya.

Hotel New Akao is a 10-minute ride from JR Atami Train Station, and a free shuttle is offered. The modern accommodation features hot-spring baths with ocean views, a rooftop garden and a French restaurant. Breakfast was limited to Jpse food but it was a nice variety of healthy, natural, and delicious items. Dinner at the Jpse restaurant was also quiet good and very reasonable for kaiseki dinner. Sake flight was very nice too, and service was excellent. The 7th floor deluxe king room was spacious, clean, well-equipped and had a great ocean view. The room has obviously been renovated, everything looked quite new. Confirmed on checkout that they used COVID downturn to renovate rooms. Both onsen baths were nice - use the one on B1 floor for best ocean view.

Guests can enjoy artworks designed by Japanese artists at the property. The lobby lounge features a garden view from floor-to-ceiling windows. For guests' convenience, there are facilities such as karaoke, spa, swimming pool and fitness centre. I tried all the onsen and they were all spacious and relaxing. Breakfast had lots of choices and they were all great, I just hope I could have sampled more, but I was already full. Room was clean and big enough for 1. Many of the staff can speak English and were very patient explaining the facilities. I also had lots of help when I thought my things were missing while I was in the onsen, they all helped looking for it, turns out one of the bathers placed her things inside my basket, while all my things were all underneath hers. My favorite was the massage chairs near the onsen on the ground floor. Although the Gero station was right next to the hotel, a shuttle bus was still available.
