Originally a cattle drover’s inn, this Highland hotel lies just over 30 miles from the pretty town of Inveraray and the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The port of Oban is approximately 30 minutes drive and ideal to enjoy for a day out. We went here for a very special occasion - our wedding anniversary - and were made to feel very special by the staff. If you're in the Loch Awe area I would recommend it for a luxurious but friendly stay. It's at one side of the old ferry route across Loch Awe from Portsonachan. The dining room looks across the loch through big arched windows and we spent more time gazing at the view than eating. As for eating there are two restaurants. For our special occasion we let our palates roam and enjoyed the Faodail Table d'Hote menu, but the Ghillies Bistro is also excellent, overlooked by an enormous range of whiskies. The room was spotless, and the whole experience was excellent.

Surrounded by woodland and pretty grounds, each pet-friendly Auchendennan Farm Cottage offers SMART TVs and Egyptian cotton bedding, along with towels, heating, and electricity. Some cottages also include a wood burning stove. Some properties boast a private hot tub and a sauna. This is a great location and once they are finished with the restoration it will be exceptional! I love the idea of turning a farmstead into varying self catering accommodations. The setting was perfect! The room we stayed in was huge! It was clean, the shower had great water pressure and temperature control. The bed was comfy too. We enjoyed walking around the property. There's a washer and dryer on-site too that appears to be free to use.

On the edge of Loch Lomond and a 30-minute drive from Glasgow and its airport, this 4-star guest house has hearty Scottish breakfasts and free Wi-Fi.

What an amazing property that allows for breakfast and dinner in their dining room with breathtaking views. Truly the highlight of our stay. The building is nice and shows some history and the room was clean, comfortable and had a nice view as well.
